The Dzongri trek is undoubtedly the most spectacular trek in Sikkim, famed for its superb mountain views, floral spectacle, birds and views of pristine forest. This beautiful trekking holiday in the Indian Himalayas takes you up to Dzongri at 4030m, opposite the eastern face of Mt. Kanchenjunga, third highest in the world and one of the most magnificent majestic peaks of the East Himalaya range.
Starting from Bagdogra, a wonderful drive takes us to Yuksom to start our stunning trekking holiday on the foothills of the Mt. Kanchenjunga massif. After this glorious 7 night/ 8 day trek in the high alpine of Sikkim, we retrace our journey back to Yuksom followed by a drive to Pemayangtse – the most important centre of Tantrik Mahayana Buddhism.
The trekking holiday trail initially menders through dense forest and, in summer, flowering orchids can be seen clinging to the bark of the highest trees. Numerous wild flowers including Potentellias, Saxifrage, Anemones and Primulas spread out in the colorful patchwork while sheep and yaks graze contentedly on the luxuriant vegetation. The Himalayan mountains are their tantalizing best – a sharp shower and the clouds lift for a few minutes to reveal the steep south face of Pandim peak. And, walking higher up, one can spot the reflection of Kanchenjunga in the still waters of the emerald blue lakes on the glacier.
