There are over 40 pre-schools in Knysna’s townships and these are
generally initiated by stay-at-home mothers or women without
formal employment who take it upon themselves to provide a
service to the community. Through the Knysna Education Trust
these women are becoming accredited and trained in pre-school
education.
EDGE of AFRICA is currently working with local pre-schools to whom
we provide support and manpower through volunteer involvement.
Volunteers are placed with 1 or more of these schools depending on
length of stay and the needs of the project at the time.
Specific teaching qualifications are not required for this project,
although this project would be of interest to and benefit from
people involved in education. Volunteers need to have a love for
children and a passion for teaching. Volunteers need to
be hard working, mature, motivated and able to show
initiative. Good health and physical fitness are also
required. Volunteers also need to be confident in English
speaking.
