Centrally located between three main ski areas, including the Saalbach ski circus, Zell am See including Kitzstein glacier, and the stunningly scenic Hochkoenig region. All regions offer alpine skiing, snowboarding parks and cross country skiing. Other winter activities include tobogganing, skating, ice carting and paragliding. More leisurely pursuits include sleigh rides, winter walks, and Christmas markets in December.
In summer, the snow has gone, and a new set of adventures becomes available, the highlights being:
Leogang mountain bike adventure park, paragliding, canyoning, rafting, kayaking, ropeparks and summer tobogganing.
More leisurely activities include: hiking (valley and mountain) cycle touring, swimming in a natural bathing lake or outdoor solar heated pool, gokarting, cultural visits to Salzburg (Augustiner monastary brewery definitely worth a visit) Innsbruck, or the spa resort of Bad Gastein.

Getting there

Located 5 minutes level walk to the town centre, yet only 15 - 20 minutes walk to countryside and the starting points of a number of mountain hikes. A range of eateries, bars, bistros, supermarkets and shops are a few minutes walk. Bus station is 7 minutes walk and the train station is 15 minutes walk.

• By Road 660 miles/10 hours motorway drive toll free from calais to Siegsdorf on the A8 Munich to Salzburg autobahn, then head south to Lofer - Saalfelden - 40 miles/1hr. On arrival in Saalfelden on the B311, at the second roundabout take the 3rd exit into Bahnhofstrasse. we are about 100m on the right, opposite 'Lowi' insurance agents.
• By Rail From London St Pancras to Saalfelden via Eurostar to Paris, then take the train to Munich, then on to Saalfelden, usually via Woergl. Journey times from 14 to 20 hours, with 3 - 5 changes depending on departure time and season. Best to visit www.bahn.de (german rail website) or for lots of good advice www.seat61.com. We are about 800m from the station.
• By Air We are centrally located between Salzburg (served by Ryanair, Easyjet, Jet2 and BA) and Innsbruck (served by Easyjet) airports which offer the most direct connections. Munich, Graz, Linz and Klagenfurt are alternatives which are 3 - 4 hours by train away. From Salzburg airport, the postbus 260 runs 5 times a day during the week and 3 x at weekends. This goes directly from the airport to Saalfelden bus station. Alternatively take bus no. 2 to the station (every 10 to 15 mins), and the train from Salzburg to Saalfelden. Typically 1hr 50 mins direct, although sometimes 1 change is required. From Innsbruck airport - take the shuttle bus from the airport to the station. Trains run regularly from Innsbruck to Saalfelden, most are direct and journey time typically 1hr 45 mins. Visit www.oebb.at for details.
• By Sea Dover to Calais or Dunkirk is the shortest channel crossing. Norfolkline.com offer good ferry crossing deals, particularly for late night/early morning crossings. Otherwise Seafrance.com or poferries.com

Other Insider Info.

Once here, due to our location close to the town centre and activities, a car isn't necessary. If you do bring your own car, you will need a Vignette (tax disk - about £7 for 5 days) to drive on Austrian motorways, although if you leave the A8 in Germany, it is possible to get to us toll free.

You can be sure of a warm and personal welcome from Jonathan and Dianne. We have not yet had the pleasure of visiting, but their genuine desire to see you enjoy your stay is clear to us.

They also have an intimate knowledge of the Salzburgerland region which they are keen to pass on.
