We have chosen 2011, the ‘Year of the Pyrenees‘ to start out on our great odyssey… the traverse of the Pyrenees via the High Route!

Who has never dreamt of completing such a trek, a true traverse of this great chain of mountains, heading east from the Atlantic coast until you reach the Mediterranean? From peak to peak, pass to pass, valley to valley, the Pyrenean High Route takes in the 400km chain of mountains and stays, as its name implies, above villages and valleys on the highest, most logical geological path possible. For this path, there are no borders and you will cross from Spain to France to Andorra and back again. As we walk this path, you will come across great geological, climate and vegetation diversity; from the green and rolling hills of the Basques country to the deep and looming canyons of Ordesa, the great high peaks of Gavarnie and Aneto to the arid Mediterranean landscape of the Canigou.

What a dream to join the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea in one unforgettable adventure; to discover, step by step, the infinite variety of flora and fauna, landscape, geology and climate that the Pyrenees holds; to walk in the steps of famous Pyreneeists, climbing great summits and crossing historic passes used as escape routes during the Spanish Civil war, and WWII….
