Getting there

Toledo is the southernmost region of Belize, and some say, "the end of the earth". You'll encounter incredible wildlife, stunning caves and waterfalls, unspoiled rain forest, and rural Mayan villages, but few other tourists.

• By Road From all points north of Punta Gorda (once in Belize), take the Southern Highway towards Punta Gorda. After Independence you will arrive at an unpaved strip of highway. Follow this for several miles until the road becomes paved again and you arrive a junction that locals call Dump’. There will be a gas station on your right. Make a left here and drive about four more miles until you see signs for Barranco and Cotton Tree Lodge on your right. Turn onto this unpaved road and follow the signs for Cotton Tree Lodge for approximately five miles. You will pass through the village of San Felipe and see orange groves on your left. Make a left at the Cotton Tree Lodge sign and follow the road one mile, bearing left at the fork, until you arrive at the Cotton Tree Lodge parking lot.

• By Air Belize International Airport (BZE) is the only major airport in Belize, and where most guests fly into. From there most of our guests choose to travel to Punta Gorda on the two domestic airlines of Belize: Tropic Air and Maya Island Air. The flights may make stops along the way so flight time varies from 45 minutes to 1 hour. Cotton Tree lodge acts as an agent for both airlines and we would be happy to assist you with booking your flights.
• By Sea There is occasional ferry service between Puerto Barrios or Livingston, Guatemala. It is also possible to sail to us:
  
  From Livingston, Guatemala:
  With your compass heading due north, the mouth of the Moho River is about 18 miles from Livingston. You will see Mother Point and Barranco Village to the south (port side). Offshore, look for a single taller tree on the port side to mark the river mouth. Sail parallel to the shore line.
  
  From Placencia:
  The river mouth is approximately 35 miles south of Placencia.Pass Punta Gorda on the starboard side, and travel six miles further south after rounding Orange Point.
  
  Once you reach the river:
  The channel is clear at the mouth of the river, water is 5 feet deep.Keep partially submerged tree branches on your port side as you approach.Beware of rocks on the starboard side just after entering river and past the fisherman’s house.Motor upstream and keep to the center to avoid tree branches overhead.River will deepen to 20’ or 30’ and boats under 45’ in length should be able to maneuver comfortably.Avoid travel from July - October due to possible flooding and strong currents.

Belize is a warm and welcoming place, and the only English-speaking country in Central America. Things may move more slowly here than you are used to, so be prepared to relax and go with the flow.
