Getting there

The Hotel les Templiers where you are based is in the historic centre of Luz St Sauveur. You are within easy walking distance of the shops, restaurants and bars but as the village is small you can also be quickly out the door and up the mountain on one of the surrounding paths.

• By Road There are only two roads into the valley - either from Lourdes or up and over the Col du Tourmalet. The Tourmalet pass generally opens in the first week of June, and closes after the first snow, generally sometime in October. Check our blog, or directly with us, to find out if it is open when you are coming through. The road from Lourdes through Pierrefitte is open year round.
• By Rail :) The best way to get here. Catch the train to Lourdes and there is then an SNCF bus connecting Lourdes with the Tourist Office in Luz (55 mins). We are 3 minutes walk from the tourist office and will come to meet you if you let us know what time your bus arrives.
• By Air Ryan Air flies to Pau in summer and both Lourdes and Pau in winter. Also to Biaritz and Carcassonne. Toulouse airport is well served by quite a number of carriers and there is a shuttle bus into the Toulouse train station (Matabiau) from where you can catch a train to Lourdes and then SNCF bus to Luz.
• By Sea Ferry to Santander in Spain from Plymouth or Portsmouth seems the best option by sea. Then choose a way to drive around or over the Pyrenees.

I have become a fan of the night train from Paris. Austerlitz station is well set up as all the night trains leave from there. You can leave at 7pm from London and be in Luz by 9am the next day. And you get two extra days on your holiday. When you arrive you can leave your bags in the lounge and use the downstairs bathroom until your room is cleaned and available.

What do they say?

At Pyrenean Odysseys we offer walking, trekking and mountain activity holidays primarily in the valleys between Lourdes in the Pyrenean foothills and the high Pyrenean peaks that form the border between France and Spain (all over 3000m). This area includes the Pyrenees National Park and the Mont Perdu World Heritage Area, along with the Pibèste and Néovielle Nature Reserves. The diversity of landscapes, flora and fauna in this relatively limited region is astounding.
We function as a cooperative, with each of us offering, selling and organising our own particular holidays, all using each others' services as required. This removes the 'tour operator', and their margin, from the equation, and allows us to offer you great value for money holidays.
At Hotel Les Templiers we are strongly committed to improving our environmental efforts. We currently offer a number of organic products at breakfast and in the restaurant and will ave the entire breakfast buffet organic this summer along with more of the restaurant produce. We prefer locally grown to organic produce from far away and local to big multi-national suppliers. We have reinsulated all of our hotel and every renovation project is done using the most environmentally sustainable materials we can find.
Pyrenean Odysseys guides, Mandy and Jonathan, all live in the Pyrenees and know the area intimately so you have a local guide giving you a real local experience. All money earned stays here, in these valleys, because this is where we have all made our lives.
