An area of rural Laos only 29 km from the capital but still very traditional and virtually untouched by tourism. A real rural setting in Laos! A place where white Westerners are still a novelty for the local villagers, both children and adults alike.

Getting there

The resort is located on the mighty Nam Ngum river in rural Laos and the lodges are nestled in natural gaps in the rainforest so as not to cut any trees down. We are within walking distance of three local villages all of which offer different views of rural Laos. One is a poor fishing village with traditional wooden houses, one is quite a smart Lao village across the river and one is a quite recently-built village built for returning Hmong people.

• By Road From Vientiane, take Route 13 South out of the city for about 12 km where you will find a roundabout in a town called Donoon. At this roundabout turn right and continue for about 7 km, you will pass the big stadium on your right after about 5 km, and, just after the km 19 marker you will see a wooden sign on the left hand side saying Rivertime Resort & Ecolodge. Turn left there and continue for about 9 km, including 4 km of dirt road at the end, where you will find us! There are maps in both English and Lao on our website at www.rivertime.com. • By Rail The only train line in Laos is 3 km long and runs from the "Friendship Bridge" border crossing with Nong Khai, Thailand, to Tanaleng train station. You can get trains to Nong Khai from several places in Thailand but, for the moment, you have to change trains in Nong Khai for the train to Laos.
  
  However, Nong Khai train station is only a few kilometres from the Friendship Bridge anyway so it will probably be quicker to get a tuk-tuk to the border yourselves.
• By Air While there are, as yet, no intercontinental flights to Vientiane there are international flights from Bangkok (Thailand), Hanoi (Vietnam), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Phnom Penh (Cambodia) and Kunming (China).
• By Sea Erm...Laos has no coast!
