As the most popular Great Wall hiking trip around Beijing, it will show you both Jinshanling and Simatai sections of the wall within 4 hours. The unrestored wall, the watch towers and the beacon towers snake on the mountain from east to west. You will have chance to meet local farmer friends, try local home-made food and learn local community development. It is the best place for keen photographers along the wall. Regarding fitness it is a medium-level hiking for all ages.
Itinerary
Pick you up at your hotel in Beijing at 8 am and drive to Jinshanling. You will start the Great Wall hiking around 10:30 am, and it will take about 4 hours to complete the hiking. On the way back into Beijing we drive by the Olympic venues and you stop to take photos.
This section offers arguably the finest Great Wall hiking anywhere on the Great Wall. It is extremely photogenic, with over 30 watch-towers, and steep gradients that give constantly changing perspectives and wide, open views. There is fascinating variety in the watch-towers here. Some have two storeys, others three. Some have flat roofs, others rounded and others again are pitched with upturned eaves. This section of the wall are wild, ruined, preserved and original. On a clear day, it is difficult to fail to take good photographs here.
When you see a lake and suspension bridge, it means it is the end of the Great Wall hiking.
Chairlift is available at Jinshanling which can save 30 mins hiking and skip over 5 towers and a flying fox (or zip line) is ready when you finish at Simatai end.
When you finish the great Wall hiking at about 2:30 pm, your guide can organize a lunch in a local farmer’s restaurant. You will be transferred back to hotel after lunch.
