The perfect outdoor active holiday. Our challenging Trekathon day starts early from Winchester, ancient capital of Wessex and city of King Alfred the Great. It then follows the Itchen valley, climbing our first hill before the city’s outskirts have dropped behind us. We then head west through ancient woodland and farmland and past ancient earthworks. Trekathon then passes historic King’s Somborne, site of a royal hunting forest and palace, then cross the picturesque River Test towards our halfway point.
Leaving the Test Valley behind us, the Trekathon crosses rolling downs with fabulous views, then takes a Roman Road which cuts unswerving through the landscape. Our route continues to dip and climb as we cross the hills.
On a clear day you will see Salisbury’s magnificent Cathedral spire – at 404ft it is the highest in the UK – from many miles away. Passing Clarendon Palace, a hunting lodge ruin dating back to Norman times, it’s not long before the Trekathon reaches Salisbury and can celebrate our achievement in front of the beautiful Cathedral.
