Mountain Navigation Weekends in the Cairngorms National Park

These courses are ideal for both those who are starting from scratch, as well as those who have some navigating experience but would like to become more proficient and increase their repertoire of skills. The variety of terrain found in the Cairngorm Mountains provides an ideal practice ground, from the low level feature packed moorland to the test piece high plateau. This fun course is delivered in a well-structured, progressive manner so you quickly gain in confidence and skill.

There are practical days of detailed map reading followed by the application of techniques to ascertain one's position and route by the 5 main elements of mountain terrain: features, gradient, aspect of slope, distance and direction (compass work).

To take your skills on further or to consolidate your navigation skills then you might also want to consider our Night Navigation weekend at the beginning of December.
