Mountain Biking in Morocco, the 10 day Atlas Traverse

Make Enquiry

A classic north-south Atlas mountain bike crossing, suitable for those with some mountain biking experience and a good basic level of fitness. One notch up on the scale from our Atlas to Desert cycling trip, this thrilling mountain bike adventure is perfect for those looking for a challenging off road biking trip in Morocco.

The Central High Atlas is one of Morocco's best regions for mountain biking. There's also the challenge of a 100km "century ride" on the last day, as well as the sights of Marrakech and the Ouzoud Falls to be experienced and explored.

Nights are spent in basic "gîte" accommodation, with a night's wilderness camping and a night spent in a local family house. In the evening we have the chance to sample Morocco’s cuisine, whilst lunches are normally taken picnic-style, usually in beautifully remote places.

Day 1 - Arrive Marrakech

Day 2 - Marrakech | Ouzoud Falls | Ait Bougmez. 30km (largely downhill)

Day 3 - Ait Bougmez - 28 km biking single track and jeep trails.

Day 4 - Ait Bougmez | Telmest - 53km biking. We set off on a ride which, over the course of the next five days will take us from the verdant valleys of the north to the rugged canyons of the Moroccan south.

Day 5 - Telmest | La Catedrale - 22km biking. Leisurely biking today after a tough day’s riding yesterday. Free afternoon with plenty of options.

Day 6 - La Catedrale | Anergui Plateau - 51km tough and largely climbing.

Day 7 - Anergui | Agoudal 42km undulating riding - small passes and varied descents.

Day 8 - Agoudal | Dades Gorge 100km
from the high plateaux of the Central High Atlas into deep south of Morocco.

  • For the majority of this tour we stay in gîtes, which are local houses converted into basic tourist accommodation. Rooms sleep up to four and have shared showers/toilets. Some gites have a wood-fired hammam (Moroccan steam room) - good for easing aches and pains. On our camping night we camp in modern mountain tents for two people and comfortable foam Berber sleeping mats are provided. Those who favour modern technology should bring their own mats. Our evening meal is eaten in our mess tent or in the open air. The remaining nights are spent in guest houses or hotels in twin/share rooms.
  • Rooms: Double/Twin, Dorm/Shared,
  • Room facilities notes: We recognise the importance of good food on trek and work hard with our team to constantly improve recipes and the standard of catering. We try to play to the strengths of what’s available in Morocco, by cooking mainly Moroccan dishes with fresh vegetables, couscous, local spices and good quality locally-produced meat. We take along plenty of fresh fruit and lunches are served picnic-style in beautifully remote places.
