This introductory course concentrates on teaching the essential skills necessary for mountain biking success. This will improve your skills and build your confidence so that you can comfortably ride the amazing man made and natural trails Scotland and the UK has to offer.
Aimed at those with little off-road experience and limited time this action packed course will teach you the techniques required to competently ride the fantastic trails of the 7 Stanes mountain biking centres.
Over a busy day we cover safety and trail etiquette, bike set up and riding position, braking, climbing, descending, cornering and dealing with obstacles (roots, rocks and drop-offs). It is possible to add an extra day to the course if you really want to get to grips with your riding.
The course is based at Glentress, Peebles and we spend most of the day riding the skills area, blue route and wrap up with selected sections of the red.
Our experienced instructors are all fully qualified mountain bike leaders and courses are limited to a maximum of six students. This ensures personal attention and a friendly, relaxed and supportive atmosphere.
Programme - Day One
9:45 – please arrive 15 minutes early to get your kit organised.
10:00 - 16.00
-Introduction and safety brief
-Bike set up and riding position
-Basic skills – balance, braking, climbing, descending, cornering.
-Exercises riding skills loop.
-Lunch at Skills Loop (Please bring a packed lunch)
-More skills – Cornering, gear selection, difficult climbs
-Descending and cornering – building confidence
-Obstacles – roots, rocks, drop-offs
-Skills in action – finish afternoon session by riding selected sections Red route.
16:00 – Debrief, finish for the day and pack up.
Programme - Day Two

-Implementation
-Coaching on the Blue Route

16:00 – Debrief, finish for the day and pack up.
