Facebook profile picture of the month

2nd August 2010

The Facebook profile picture of the month is a new feature. Each month we will contact one of our Facebook fans with an interesting profile picture to find out some more about it.

For the first month we've picked out this beautiful shot from Greig Scott.

James contacted Greig at the end of last week just as he was preparing for a 100 mile bike ride in the Scottish Borders over the weekend.

GS - It's a Sportive add on to the Chain Reaction MTB Marathon series. Just checked the profile and it's a hell of a lot hillier than I thought (10k ft of ascent !!!!).

JG - That sounds epic. I really should get out on my bike some more over this summer! So where was the profile pic taken?

GS - Climbing the Granta Parey, in the Gran Paradiso National Park in the Italian Alps. Ascent of the Granta Parey was followed by a ski descent from summit to the Rifugio Bezzi.

JG - What was the most memorable part of trip?

GS - Either a beatiful traverse of the Gran Paradiso on skis (only 4000m peak exclusively in Italy) or, unfortunately, a large windslab avalanche on the descent of the Gran Vaudala, which nearly took out the other 2 guys in our team.

JG - Wow close call! What are your planning for your next trips?

GS - Two weeks exploring on skis the Mani Lasalle range in Utah and the Wind River range in Wyoming in February, followed by trip leading a group on the Tour du Ciel in Switzerland in April, and a ski mountaineering trip to Chile in September.

JG - I'm hoping to get out to the Tetons this winter, It would be good to catch up for a ski.

If anyone has any questions for Greig please post them here.

Also on the subject of Avalanche awareness check out the videos posted on the MuchBetterAdventurer Youtube channel.

If you think you have the ultimate picture for next month, or have a nomination, let it be known on our Facebook page, or contact us by email.
