Stu’s muchbetter Guide to Squamish, BC, Canada

26th November 2010

Why Squamish?

Squamish is the place where the mountains meet the ocean. In one day it is possible to rock climb, mountain bike, kite board, scuba dive and still get to the pub in the evening to recount the days adventures. For rest days there is plenty to do around town and both Vancouver and Whistler are only 45 minutes away.

Favorite spot for rock climbing in Squamish?

Murrin Park. Loads of climbing crags with both trad and sport climbing of all grades. Up Among The Firs is a sweet little crag which is well worth the 20 minute hike to escape the crowds. Poster Boy (5.10c/d) and A Little Testis (5.10b/c) are classics. Jump in the lake at the end of the day to cool off!

Favorite spot for mountain biking in Squamish?

Valleycliffe. Do endless loops through rolling rainforest .

Favorite spot for backcountry skiing in Squamish?

Mt. Garabaldi on a quiet day. A short approach with beautiful scenery and you’re still home in time for dinner.

Favorite places to grab some food in Squamish?

The Brew Pub. Get a burger with salad, yam fries and a Nut Brown Ale; I guarantee you will be a happy person.

Favorite places for a drink in Squamish?

The Brew Pub. A great atmosphere and tons of beer brewed on site. You can see the casks behind the bar. Good food too.

What’s the best time of year to come to Squamish?

Summer time when you can play as hard as you want during the day and cool off in the lakes or at the pub in the evening.

Anything else you need to share for people planning a muchbetter adventure to Squamish?

The farmers market on Saturday mornings in the summer. Go, taste, try and be amazed at the variety of goods on offer. Fresh baked fruit tarts seem to hit the spot for me!

Whistler is only 45 minutes away!
