Ben's guide to mountain biking in Les Arcs

17th May 2011

Why Les Arcs?
If you class yourself as a mountain biker then you need to try this resort. With lift access to Les Arcs,
Peisey, Vallandry and La Plagne with 1 lift pass you can access a vast range of trails. It has some of
the best natural trails and epic out the way single track that you will ever ride. From fast and swoopy
to tight and techy, whatever sort of riding you’re into then Les Arcs has a track to suit you…and then
some! Many of the tracks are barely ridden and often you can go for days without seeing another
person on a bike and as for braking bumps…there are none to be seen on any of the natural stuff!
Favourite spot for mountain biking in Les Arcs?
Totally depends what sort of mood I’m in. Sometimes I want to just do fast laps so I’ll head down
to Bourg St Maurice and use the Funicular to get some proper DH action, but sometimes if tearing
around smooth single track with a few jumps and drops thrown in is what I’m after, then I will head
over on the Vanoise Express and ride a few trails in La Plagne.
Favourite places to grab some food in Les Arcs?
Lots of lovely cafes and bars to grab a bite to eat when you’re out on the hill, but Maxima in
Vallandry is a favourite for speed, service and quality. The ice creams in Tonneau in Bourg are HUGE
and hit the spot when it gets really hot!
Favourite places for a drink in Les Arcs?
La Vache on a warm summer evening is hard to beat with some beers and nibbles. The view isn’t too
bad either and it’s all downhill home after…now how many beers have I had and should I take the
road or trails?
What’s the best time of year to come to Les Arcs?
What do you want to do? Ski…then winter, bike… then anytime apart from winter. The lifts are open
for bike access through July and August and the rest of the time you’re just going to have to get on
and pedal!
Anything else you need to share for people planning a muchbetter adventure to Les Arcs?
The trails, views, people and environment make Les Arcs the resort it is. If you have any more
questions about the mountain biking in Les Arcs or La Plagne in the Summer then please drop me a
line at benthompson85@hotmail.co.uk and I will be happy to help out.

If you find yourself down in Bourg St Maurice, check out Ski Roc Cafe - on the Avenue de l'Arc-en-Ciel (near the station) - amazing burgers and pizzas.
