Meet the members - Tailwind Jungle Lodge

5th July 2011

1. Who are you and your team (name, age, where you are from?)
I am Tamara Jacobi (age 27) and I am the manager of the Tailwind jungle lodge. I founded the lodge with my parents, Walter and Judi Jacobi. We are originally from Quebec, Canada. We now live 9 months out of the year in San Pancho, Mexico.
2. What inspired you to start, and how long have you been doing it?
My father's passion for outdoor adventure, combined with my studies of Environmental Economics in College were the initial inspiration for the Tailwind jungle lodge and adventure tour company.  I wrote up the business plan for the Tailwind jungle lodge during my final semester of college and we founded the lodge that year, in Dec. 2007.  We have now been open for 4 years.
3. Why did you choose [destination]?
We chose San Pancho, Mexico, because my family and I fell in love with it.  The dense jungle here, dropping to white sand beaches is simply stunning.  My father had also been coming to the Puerto Vallarta area since the 1960s to surf.  He knew he eventually wanted to buy a piece of land here, and when we found 5 acres of untouched jungle outside of the charming town of San Pancho, we knew this was the place.

4. What makes you muchbetter?
The Tailwind jungle lodge works very hard to keep our operations and activities holistically sustainable. We respect not only the natural world, but also the local community and economy.
We are a small lodge, but we seek to educate and demonstrate to our guests and the local community about the value of sustainable living. We are members of Sustainable Travel International and achieved STEP sustainability certification in 2009.
5. Insider tip for your area
The Stand Up Paddle boarding here is amazing! This is a great spot to learn.

Another member steps to the fore to give us an insight into them and their business - Tailwind Jungle Lodge, San Pancho, Mexico.
