For many years French Motorists have enjoyed access to telepeage lanes at the motorway toll booths. For those that haven’t come across the term, telepeage is a French term given to automatic toll payment. These telepeage lanes are often to the side of the standard toll barrier lanes and use electronic devices mounted to an overhead gantry that communicate with special telepeage toll tags, these tags can be fitted neatly onto your windscreen just behind the rear view mirror. Until recently these lanes have been reserved for French motorists or motorists with French bank accounts. Sanef France has now made the service available to British motorists through Sanef Tolling, their UK division. 

What Are The Advantages Of Telepeage?

The main difficulty with French toll booths for UK motorists is that they are designed with right hand drive cars in mind. This isn’t so bad if you’re travelling with a companion but when you’re by yourself you can often find you have to get out the car or lean right over to the passenger window. The telepeage lanes also put an end to the traditional frantic rummage for Euros on approach to the toll booths. The telepeage lanes enable you to pass through the toll plazas at 30mph meaning no more stopping and queuing.

There are clear instructions on how to fit the tag and each tag can last up to 7 years on a single battery.
