Off piste in La Clusaz

La Clusaz is a less visited resort than some, but there is loads of great off piste runs for you to discover.

All the terrain in the La Balme bowl is very skiable, and great fun with loads of natural bumps and kickers.

offpiste skiing and snowboarding in la clusaz combe de bellachatThe Combe de Bellachat is a classic off piste route, accessed by a 10 min hike in from La Balme (look left as you near the top of the La Balme lift and you will normally see tracks entering over a notch). You normally have to drop in off a small wind lip, and keep left for the first part of the descent unless you want to hit a huge cliff. Soon the valley opens up and it is pretty much all skiable and very fun terrain ranging from 20-35 degress. Exit on skiers left near Lac de Confin and join a cross country trakc which takes you back round to La Balme car park.

There is some classic (quite steep in parts) off piste tree runs to be had by dropping right off the cat track which joins Aiguille (red run) with the Cret de Merle. Keep skiing more or less straight down and you eventually hit a green run which runs round to the bottom of Fernuy telecabine.

From the top of the Fernuy telecabine you can traverse high above the black run and drop down after it for some fun tree skiing when the conditions are right. Again you finish at the bottom of the Fernuy lift, but be warned, this route does have some unskiable terrain if you take a wrong turning.
