Ski touring safety and etiquette.
- Unless you are very experienced in all aspects of mountain travel and avalanche safety, and you know the terrain, you should go with a guide.
- Never ski above people climbing a slope.
- Always walk and ski spread out, and never lose site of anyone in your group
- Follow local rules concerning protected areas of the mountain.
- Never freeload by following a guided group from a distance. You do not know where they are going, or their level of skill. It will also ruin their experience. Employ a guide yourself if you want the best of the mountain. They have to earn their money too.
- Take your turn at the front. The lack of existing tracks make it much harder work for the leader.
- It's really unfair to ski past someone who is trying to decide how to make the most of the blank canvas before them. Ed has lost out too many times to accept this!
