Why stay in an independent catered chalet?

The chalets here are all local and independently run. This means that the person who took your booking may well be the one to pick you up from the airport and will be in contact throughout your stay to make sure you are completely happy with the service provided. They are skiers and snowboarders too, and love to share their tips on the best places to go and where to find that powder stash. How different that is from the large chalet companies who hire young seasonal staff to just cook and clean?!

These chalets aim to remove the work from your skiing holiday, no stress about transfers, equipment hire, lift passes and cooking. A large chalet allows you to go on a holiday with your friends and have no arguments about whose turn it is to cook and wash up.

Most chalets provide 6 x 4-course dinners a week with unlimited wine as well as breakfasts and drinks when you get back from the slopes. If your chalet is not in the centre of town most companies will provide transport to the lifts and a free ski guiding service if you are new to the resort.

If there are young children in the group the chalet host can often organise a nursery for them, and they will often be fed before the adults to allow you to have your dinner in peace.

Before you head out, why not check out our article on how to get fit for the ski slopes, so you can make the most of them!

Green ski holidays

If that wasn’t enough, many of the chalets and hotels have been independently approved as ‘muchbetter’ – committed to green practices and getting better every year. Whoever you choose, you can be sure your money is going straight into friendly local businesses and not staying in the hands of a soulless package ski company in the UK.

To see a list of the most and least environmentally friendly ski resorts see our 'where and when to go skiing and snowboarding?' page.

If you need a transfer to your ski resort, then why not have a look at Green Path Transfers? We feel that they are currently the market leaders in providing 'green' airport transfers.
