Why take a trekking holiday?
Trekking is a great way to see an area at a leisurely pace and interact with it in a way that is not possible if you drive through an area. Some of the treks can seem pretty daunting, but here is a list of 5 treks almost anyone can do, these are treks that don't involve preparation like this.
Where to go trekking?
Where to go trekking really depends on what you are looking for, Nepal is home to the high mountains and the iconic treks, however. they are often pretty long and therefore, may not be feasible for people. There are many other countries which have beautiful areas to trek in but are not so well known as Nepal and therefore less visited.
What to expect?
The areas you will be trekking through are not accessible by any other means so you can feel a sense of achievement in what you have done as there is no other ways of seeing what you see.
It is often a good idea to go on long treks with a recognised operator as they may be in remote areas and it is good to have a trusted local guide who knows the area well just in case there are any problems or accidents.
Gear and Kit
A decent pair of boots is necessary for most treks as they will be taking place over a number of days in relatively harsh terrain. For clothing, natural fabrics are best as they are usually much more comfortable and breathable than synthetic ones. This is especially important as you may have to carry your own clothes and there may not be many laundry facilities.
