Why a surf holiday?
If you are seasoned surfer this question doesn’t need answering. We all know that a surf holiday is the perfect break (in all senses of the word!). Surfing is a great workout, a great way to get a tan, meet some cool people and make a beach holiday far more interesting! At the risk of sounding a little hippy, when paddling out into the line up on a sunny day there is simply no better way to escape the stresses of everyday life and start to reconnect with yourself and nature.
Surfing has close connections to environmental awareness, which is why you'll find a lot of 'muchbetter' surf members on Much Better Adventures. Fortunately the surf industry is taking more steps to tackle the environmental damage it does, so surfing will be better for you, and better for the environment!
When should I go surfing?
The answer to that is, when do you want to go? In Europe and Morocco the biggest waves arrive in winter, but there is still plenty of surfing to enjoy during the warmer summer holidays.
Heading over to Central America and you can expect to find swells year round if you are flexible with where you go. Likewise in South America, January to May works best for the Northern coast of Ecuador and Peru, while further south the reverse is true.
Across to Asia and you will find surf holidays in places like Bali are worth taking any time between April and October.
Where should I go on a surf holiday?
Like the answer to when, this too is a case of where do you want to go?! For those starting out, taking a surf holiday closer to home – Cornwall, France, Northern Spain or Portugal would be a good bet. In summer the waves will be ideal for learning on, the sea warm and the vibes fun. That is the perfect introduction. As you start to get more confident you might start to think further a field and bigger waves.
