Why canoe and kayaking holidays?
Kayaking is a great way to experience an area, get fit and have fun. Canoe and kayak holidays have options for all skill levels, they are available all over the world, are family friendly and also have options for the hardened adventurer. Canoe and kayak holidays give you the chance to get up close and personal with nature, in places which simply aren't accessible any other way. From mangrove swamps to sea caves, you'll see all sorts!
Canoe and kayak holidays give you the perfectopportunity to have an adventure, such as this one in Scotland, and this in Venezuela!
Types of kayaking
There are three main types of kayaking:
Sea or tour kayaking, where you travel longer distances over the sea or a larger stretch of water. Sea kayaks have water tight compartments for all your gear, making multi-day trips possible.
Recreational kayaking, which is a low impact, recreational sport on quieter rivers and lakes. These can be great opportunities for you to master kayak skills, such as the eskimo roll.
Whitewater kayaking, which covers scenic paddles and raging torrents and whitewater. These trips not only enable you to see beautiful mountain scenery, but also give you a boost of adrenaline! Many of our operators offer multi-day white water trips all over the world - and they're not restricted to kayaks - you can often enjoy these trips on rafts too.
Gear and kit
I speak from experience when I say that kayaking can be a chilly sport! Sea kayaking in higher latitudes, and white water kayaking in the mountains often results in contact with cold water! Therefore take plenty of clothes which will keep you warm when wet. Best to ask the operator what they suggest bringing. Most operators will also be able to hire equipment - especially the canoes and kayaks, as well as paddles, spray decks, helmets and dry suits.
