Why ski in Austria?

Austria is mostly made up of the Alps, therefore it isn't too surprising that it is a popular ski destination! The skiing villages in Austria are usually pretty old and so much prettier than the other purpose built resorts in Europe.

They are also renowned for having good value accommodation as well as a lively apres-ski scene. They usually have long vertical drops into the village which leads to uncrowded slopes and short queues for lifts.

Getting there and back.

Flying is the usually way of getting to resorts in Austria. Flights are usually to Salzburg or Innsbruck and there are a number of transfer options from buses or taxis to trains. Some chalets may provide transfer services.

It is possible to get the train to Austrian resorts but they are not on the Eurostar snow-train lines and may take at least a day with an overnight stop in Zurich necessary. Most resorts have a train station either in or close to them and so there is also the option of flying the first leg of the journey then taking the train.
