Why ski in Switzerland?

Skiing in Switzerland has everything, there is skiing for all ages, abilities and tastes. There are some very long runs and vertical drops.

Many of the ski resorts are underneath famous and picturesque mountains, for example the Matterhorn over Zermatt and the North Face of the Eiger (which inspired a certain well known outdoor brand!).

Switzerland has an unfair reputation as being very expensive, however, due to the changing exchange rates and rising prices of other resorts, Switzerland is comparable in price to the other popular European resorts. This does mean though, that the ski chalets in Switzerland are generally of very high quality!

There are also lots of lift options to get people onto the pistes in Swiss resorts, as there are often railways as well as large gondolas lifts.

Getting there.

The usual airports to use if flying to Switzerland are Geneva, Basel-Mulhouse and Zurich. To get from the airport to the resort can easily be done by train as many of the resorts have good train links even if they are car free (Zermatt, Wengen, Murren and Saas-Fee).

You can also get the train from London to Switzerland, however this involves changing stations in Paris.
