Trekking in the northern Langtang region is the most accessible in the country, it’s lack of 8,000-metre mountains mean most travellers flock elsewhere.

However, the Langtang Valley Trek packs the largest range of Himalayan scenery into the shortest amount of time.

The trek typically ascends through the lower hemlock and oak forests of the Langtang Khola riverbank, and up through the snowy, yak grazing pastures below the Langtang Glacier.

Most routes take you to Kyanjin Gompa (3750m), famous for its Buddhist temple and cheese factory. The trek to the sacred Lake Gosainkunda (4380m) is often added to the end of the route, and you may well share the hike with bare-footed pilgrims.
