Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to the Amalfi Coast!
Driving1.5hrsHotelTwin shareDinner includedShow Day 1 detailHide detail
Meet your driver at Naples airport for a comfortable private transfer to Maiori - a charming seaside town with the longest beach on the Amalfi Coast, a lively seafront promenade and a medieval castle perched on the hill above, all with far fewer crowds than its famous neighbours like Amalfi and Positano. Check in, settle into the hotel and take a stroll to get your bearings before you meet your guide for a welcome briefing. Gather with your group in the evening for a welcome dinner together - the perfect start to the week ahead.
Day 2
Hike the Path of the Lemons via Minori and Ravello to Amalfi
Hiking4hrs · 8km · 400m up · 400m downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 2 detailHide detail
After breakfast, head out from the hotel and follow the Sentiero dei Limoni (Path of the Lemons), a historic mule track winding through fragrant lemon groves above the coast to the neighbouring village of Minori. Here, visit a traditional lemon grove for a guided tasting of local products, then stop at a local liquor factory to discover the secrets behind Limoncello, the iconic Amalfi digestif. From Minori, the path climbs to hilltop Ravello - one of the most beautiful towns on the coast where you have some free time to explore. Next, descend through the picturesque village of Atrani to reach Amalfi, where there is more time to soak up the atmosphere of the historic centre before a short ferry ride or transfer back to Maiori. Tonight is at leisure, and you are free to explore Maiori’s restaurants and eateries at your own pace.
Day 3
Above the clouds to the top of Monte Avvocata
Hiking6hrs · 12km · 800m up · 850m downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 3 detailHide detail
An early start for the most demanding day of the week. Transfer to the Badia di Cava de' Tirreni for a visit to the beautiful Benedictine Abbey before setting off on a famous pilgrim route through golden chestnut woods and panoramic ridgeline paths to the Santuario dell'Avvocata, perched at almost 1,000m above sea level. One of the most spectacular viewpoints on the entire coast, yet unknown to most visitors, the sanctuary feels like a well-kept secret - the sweeping views over the Gulf of Salerno are yours to savour. In the afternoon, descend via ancient mule tracks all the way back down to Maiori, and celebrate your achievement with a well-earned dip in the sea.
Day 4
A Day on Capri - Island Trails & Dolce Vita
Hiking2hrs · 6km · 100m up · 100m downHotelTwin shareBreakfast includedShow Day 4 detailHide detail
After yesterday's demanding climb, today is a welcome change of pace. Transfer to Amalfi and board the ferry to Capri, arriving at one of Italy's most iconic islands. A local bus takes you to the Faro di Anacapri, the starting point of the Sentiero dei Fortini - a panoramic coastal path linking a series of ancient Aragonese watchtowers above brilliant blue water. Easy underfoot and utterly spectacular, the trail takes around two hours at a relaxed pace. The afternoon is yours to explore Capri and Anacapri at leisure: ride the Monte Solaro chairlift for breathtaking views, visit the Villa San Michele, peek into the famous Blue Grotto or simply find a shaded terrace and watch the world go by. Meet your guide at an agreed time for the ferry back to the mainland and transfer to Maiori.
Day 5
Valle delle Ferriere - Waterfalls, Ancient Mills & a Farm Lunch
Hiking3hrs · 8km · 250m up · 200m downHotelTwin shareBreakfast and lunch includedShow Day 5 detailHide detail
After breakfast, transfer to Pontone and descend on foot into the Valle delle Ferriere, the Amalfi Coast's hidden nature reserve. This lush, cool gorge shelters ancient fern species, a beautiful waterfall and the atmospheric ruins of medieval paper mills slowly being reclaimed by nature. Arrive at Agriturismo Fore Porta - a organic family farm nestled in the heart of the valley - for a leisurely lunch of traditional recipes made with fresh ingredients straight from the garden. Next, continue into Amalfi for a guided tour of the Museo della Carta, a living 13th-century paper mill where you can make your own sheet of traditional Amalfi paper, before some free time in the historic centre and a transfer back to Maiori, with time for a sunset swim or relaxing at the local beach.
Day 6
The legendary Path of the Gods to Positano
Hiking4-5hrs · 10km · 50m up · 650m downHotelTwin shareAll meals includedShow Day 6 detailHide detail
The week's grand finale! After breakfast, transfer to Agerola and set off on the Sentiero degli Dei - the Path of the Gods - one of Italy's most celebrated hiking trails, traversing a dramatic ridge high above the coastline with sweeping views stretching from Capri to the Lattari Mountains. At the midpoint, stop at shepherd Antonio's farmstead for a memorable lunch of local cheeses, cured meats and wine. The path continues to Nocelle, from where you can choose to descend to Positano via the famous 1,000-step staircase or take the local bus down. Enjoy some free time in one of the Amalfi Coast's most beautiful towns before the ferry back to Maiori, where the week ends as it began - together, over a celebratory farewell dinner.

What's not included
Our trips do not include flights, trains or other travel to the start point and back from the end point.
A city tax of Eur 3 per night must be paid by each guest directly to the hotel before the end of the stay. Please budget approx. Eur 18 for this trip.
4 dinners are not included in the trip, giving you the flexibility to explore local cuisine at your own pace. From simple local eateries and bakeries, to more substantial restaurant meals, your guide will always be able to recommend good options in Maiori.
We recommend budgeting around Eur 20-40 per meal depending on your choices.
Tips are not included in the trip cost. These are entirely at your discretion, but there is an expectation to tip for good service. Your guide will help with advice, however we suggest the below as a guideline:
€40-50 per person for the tour leader € 15 per person for the drivers
Of course, you are free to tip more or less, and the amount should be reflective of your perception of service and quality – a tip is not compulsory and should only be given when you receive excellent service.
Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures, and you'll need to provide your policy details before departure. Your insurance should offer adequate cover for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment, and the specific activities involved in your adventure. We also recommend ensuring your policy includes cancellation and curtailment cover, in case you're unable to join your trip due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness.
Standard travel insurance may not cover all the activities included in your adventure, so it's essential to check the details carefully. There are adventure-specific providers that many travellers have used in the past, such as True Traveller (opens in new tab) (for those based in the UK or Europe), or Rise + Shield (opens in new tab), both of which offer cover for a wide range of adventurous activities.
Please make sure your chosen policy meets your individual needs and covers all aspects of your trip.
Visa requirements often change, and you are responsible for obtaining any required visas for this trip. Please check with your nearest embassy or consulate for up-to-date advice.
You know your own spending habits best, so please budget an appropriate amount for things like optional meals and drinks, shopping, optional activities, and laundry.

FAQs
What does a typical day look like?
Days are structured to make the most of the trails and the places along them, with logistics kept as simple as possible. Transfers to and from the trailheads are short, usually approx. 20 mins and no more than 45 minutes, and often one way only, with some days starting or finishing right at the hotel. Where possible, the journeys from and to Maiori are by ferry rather than road, which is not only more scenic but helps avoid the notoriously congested coastal roads. The coastal base also means the trails are generally more accessible than on trips based further inland. A couple of days begin earlier than others, partly to make the most of the cooler morning temperatures before the heat builds, and partly to give more time at the destinations. On Capri day for example, an early ferry crossing means a full afternoon free to explore the island at leisure. Early starts are always worthwhile, and the itinerary is designed so the pace on the trail never feels too rushed. Typically, you can expect to be out from after breakfast until mid or late afternoon, leaving evenings free to spend as you wish - whether that's over dinner with the group following your guide's recommendations, relaxing on the beach or wandering the lively streets of Maiori.
Is there time to explore the towns?
Absolutely! Although this is primarly a hiking adventure, the itinerary builds in some free time (typically 1-2 hrs) in some of the coast's most beautiful places: wandering the lanes of Ravello, exploring Amalfi's historic centre, soaking up the atmosphere in Positano and discovering Capri at your own pace. Other stops along the way - lemon grove tastings, a farm lunch, a Limoncello-making session - are as much a part of the experience as the trails themselves.
Will the trails be crowded?
The Amalfi Coast is one of Italy's most visited regions, but the trails on this itinerary are far less frequented than the main tourist hotspots like Amalfi and Positano, where you'll only spend a few hours after the hikes. The Sentiero dei Fortini on Capri and the Valle delle Ferriere see relatively few visitors, and the Avvocata Sanctuary route is largely unknown to tourists. The Path of the Gods is the busiest trail of the week, particularly on weekends, but the hike is usually scheduled on Fridays and the trip runs in shoulder season - April to June and September to October - when crowds are significantly lower than in peak summer. Capri can get extremely busy in peak summer however the Sentiero dei Fortini is also one of the island's quieter corners - well away from the Piazzetta and the main tourist circuit. The free afternoon gives you the flexibility to find your own pace and avoid the busiest spots if you wish.
What do I do about drinking water?
The local tap water is safe to drink. Please bring along your own reusable water bottle to fill up at the hotel and public fountains to avoid buying single-use plastic bottles.
Who at Much Better Adventures designed this trip?
Marta Marinelli, raised in Italy’s serene Prosecco Hills, dreamt of global adventures, inspired by her father's travel stories. Her passion evolved into a career, backed by a decade of studies including degrees in international tourism and destination management. She’s worked in the adventure travel sector since 2012, living in Italy, the UK, and now sunny Portugal.
Over twenty years, Marta has explored over 55 countries, visiting remote areas like Ghana, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Haiti and Nepal’s Upper Mustang region. As a Senior Adventure Expansion Manager at Much Better Adventures, she focuses on creating life-changing experiences, ranging from multi-activity adventures, challenging treks, to ultimate adventures in iconic places. She loves the challenge of finding the best local adventure hosts around the world, collaborating on adventures that offer genuine immersion, pushing beyond the beaten path and working on exclusive itineraries that challenge your comfort zone.
What makes her tick? Enabling people to live adventure-rich lives while positively impacting and empowering local communities around the world, generating sustainable opportunities for both the host, guides, community, and the environment.
What about bad weather?
The Amalfi Coast can experience changeable weather, particularly in spring and early autumn. Your guide will always have a plan B and will adapt the day's route accordingly. In the event of heavy rain, the itinerary may need to be adjusted or the order of the hikes changed, especially if local ferries are suspended, though that's uncommon.
Can my dietary requirements be catered for on this adventure?
At Much Better Adventures, we work hard to accommodate dietary requirements and allergies so your trip is safe, inclusive and enjoyable. That said, options can vary by country, location and accommodation, and in some places options may be limited or unavailable. The information below has been provided by your host so you’re fully informed about what will be possible on your trip depending on your individual requirements. This information should be read carefully prior to your trip to ensure that you are adequately prepared for the situation ‘on the ground’.
Once you have booked on your trip, please fill out your passenger information form asap with any dietary requirements. Once you complete your passenger information, your dietary needs and any allergies are automatically shared with your host and, in turn, your guide. Please submit this as early as possible so they can plan accordingly and deliver the best experience. Please also remind your guide about your dietary requirements upon arrival, as mentioning these in person allows your guide to comprehend individual preferences and limitations as soon as you arrive.
BACKGROUND
Borneo's cuisine is shaped by its dense rainforest interior, long river systems and coastal geography, drawing on Indigenous traditions of the Dayak and other ethnic groups alongside Malay, Chinese and colonial influences that reflect the island's complex cultural history. Meals tend to be simple and ingredient-led, featuring rice, freshwater fish, wild vegetables, jungle ferns and pork in non-Muslim communities, with coconut, chilli and fermented condiments used widely across the island. Dietary diversity varies considerably depending on whether travellers are in coastal towns, interior longhouse communities or the Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak, and vegetarians may find options more limited outside urban areas. Travellers with specific dietary requirements should plan ahead, particularly for more remote stretches, and guides will be essential in communicating needs and ensuring suitable meals are arranged with local hosts and communities.
SPECIAL DIETS
Vegetarian
Vegetarian diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is informed in advance. While every effort will be made to accommodate your requirements, please note that vegetarian ingredients and specialty meat-free alternatives are not widely available in this destination. As a result, meal options may be somewhat limited and repetitive. Typical vegetarian meals in Malaysia may include dishes such as stir-fried seasonal vegetables, tofu-based dishes, egg dishes, lentil or dhal curry, and rice or rice noodle meals. Local favourites like vegetable fried rice, mee goreng (vegetarian version), and vegetable curry (often prepared with coconut milk) can usually be arranged. Fresh fruit and simple soups are also commonly available.
We recommend being flexible with local preparation styles, and bringing any preferred snacks or protein supplements if you require more variety during your trip.
Vegan
Vegan diets can be accommodated on this trip, although they present more of a challenge. While your host will do their best to meet your requirements, please note that vegan-specific ingredients and plant-based alternatives are not widely available. Due to the remote nature of the itinerary and limited local supply, meal options may be somewhat repetitive. Typical vegan-friendly meals in Malaysia can include simple rice-based dishes, stir-fried seasonal vegetables, tofu, tempeh, vegetable soups, and rice or rice noodle dishes. Many local dishes can be adapted to be vegan by excluding meat, fish sauce, egg and dairy, for example vegetable fried rice, stir-fried noodles, or vegetable curries prepared with coconut milk.
We cannot guarantee full variety or specialised vegan substitutes throughout the trip. We strongly recommend bringing your preferred snacks, protein supplements, or meal replacements from home to ensure you have sufficient nutrition and variety during your adventure.
Kosher
Fully certified kosher kitchens and supervision are rarely available on this trip and cannot be guaranteed unless expressly confirmed in advance by your host. Where possible, the local host will do their best to assist, but full kosher preparation standards (including certified supervision, utensils, and separate preparation areas) are not usually available in most locations. Vegetarian or vegan meals are often the most reliable alternative, if suitable for you.
Halal
Halal meals can be arranged throughout the trip, provided your host is informed in advance. Please note that halal-certified restaurants or cafés are not widely available in all locations on this itinerary. In many areas, meals will instead be provided from pork-free establishments or local eateries that may use halal ingredients, but do not hold official halal certification. Typical meal options may include grilled or stir-fried chicken or beef from pork-free kitchens, rice-based dishes such as nasi goreng (fried rice) or nasi lemak (without non-halal components), noodle dishes, vegetable curries, soups, and seafood where appropriate. Ingredients such as alcohol-based sauces or non-halal meat products can sometimes be excluded upon request. As certification standards vary by destination and supply is limited in some areas, we are unable to guarantee fully certified halal meals throughout the trip. Where preferred, vegetarian or vegan options are often more consistently available and may provide a more reliable alternative.
INTOLERANCES
Gluten-free (for Coeliac, please see Allergies section below)
Gluten-free diets can be difficult to accommodate on this trip. While your host will do their best to meet these requirements, please note that gluten-free ingredients are not widely available in this destination. As a result, meal options, particularly main courses, may be limited and somewhat repetitive, often centred around staples such as steamed rice, rice noodles (bihun), and fresh vegetables. Where possible, naturally gluten-free dishes can be provided, such as grilled or stir-fried meats, fish, eggs, vegetable soups, and simple rice-based meals. However, common ingredients like soy sauce, marinades, and gravies may contain wheat unless specifically substituted.
The local host can provide gluten-free soy sauce for use during meals where applicable. Despite this, we cannot guarantee a completely gluten-free environment due to the risk of cross-contamination in local kitchens and shared cooking spaces.
We strongly recommend bringing your preferred gluten-free snacks, protein bars, or supplements from home to ensure you have sufficient suitable options throughout your journey.
Lactose-free
Lactose-free diets can be catered for on this trip, provided your host is informed in advance. In Malaysia, many local dishes are naturally lactose-free. Typical meals include steamed rice with grilled or stir-fried chicken, beef or fish, vegetable dishes, clear soups, and rice noodle-based options. Popular local dishes such as nasi goreng (fried rice), mee goreng (fried noodles), and bihun (rice vermicelli) can usually be prepared without dairy ingredients. Coconut milk is commonly used in Malaysian cooking as a substitute for dairy in certain dishes such as curries, and is generally suitable for lactose-free diets. However, creamy or western-style sauces, desserts, and baked goods may contain milk, butter, or cream unless specifically adjusted. While we will do our best to avoid dairy in meal preparation, availability of specialised lactose-free products (such as lactose-free milk, butter, or cream alternatives) may be limited depending on location.
ALLERGIES
Our host has confirmed that provision for certain mild and severe or life threatening food allergies on this trip may be unreliable. Please get in touch with our Customer Experience team prior to booking to discuss whether your requirements can be accommodated safely on this trip.
This will allow us to carefully consider the sensitivity and severity of your allergy, the available provision on the trip and the accessibility of medical care should a reaction occur. Your safety is always our top priority. Please note that when travelling overseas, local ingredients, food preparation methods and labelling standards may vary, particularly in remote areas. It is also worth noting that any allergies may result in more limited options and repetitive provision in some areas. Whilst your guide will help communicate dietary requirements where possible, customers remain responsible for managing their own allergies during the trip.
Can I book on my own?
Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.
Who is running the trip?
Our team of Adventure Hunters co-create exclusive adventures which are run by highly vetted, specialist hosts. The trip is run by our trusted host partner in the destination. We only work with independent, local, in-destination experts who know the very best places to explore and how to stay safe. Read more information about the local teams we partner with. You’ll be introduced to the host straight after making a booking via the Much Better Adventures platform.
What is the official travel advice?
Much Better Adventures refer to the UK Government’s official travel advice when designing trips and monitoring trip operations. We recommend that all customers are familiar with the practical information provided on the Government’s FCDO website, where current travel advice can be found by searching for the applicable destination(s).
For customers joining this trip from other international destinations – please also read the official travel advice applicable to your country of residence/origin, as this may differ.
What vaccinations do I need?
We recommend checking out the country-specific information and also talking to a travel nurse.
How are the trips priced?
We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.
Why are your adventures only for adults?
All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. You must be over 18 to join one of our trips.
Who else will be on my trip?
You're always in good company on one of our adventures.

What's the weather like?
The Amalfi Coast usually enjoys warm, sunny weather from April through to October, with daytime temperatures ranging from 18–30°C in spring and autumn and peaking higher in midsummer. The trip runs in April, May, June, September and October — the sweet spot for hiking, when conditions are ideal and the coast is at its most beautiful before or after the summer rush. Rain is possible at any time of year, but generally brief, and you can expect long sunny days for the most part.
What's the carbon footprint for this trip?
We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.
What's the number?
It works out on average at 790kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.
The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.
But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:
- Driving 1000 miles/1609km would be approximately 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person, if there were two of you in it).
- A return economy class flight between London and New York would be approximately 1619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
- 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approximately 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.
What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.
Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.
