Your catering options

Chefs are a funny bunch. Take Gordon Ramsey as an example…yeah, I am sure he can knock up a half-decent Shepherd’s Pie but at what cost? He shouts an awful lot and he is aggressive and, quite frankly, a little scary. We understand that your chef is your host and the face of The Chalet Company. He or she must act accordingly, he or she is what will make your holiday special and that goes beyond a cracking plate of food.

It is for this reason that Chef Ramsey’s application form is overlooked year after year by Anneliese, our HR Director (and Director of anything else that needs done properly!)

We rate our chefs ten out of ten for cooking, for hosting and for general loveliness…we hope you will too!

“Fully-catered” can be as ambiguous as “ski-in/ ski-out” amongst the tour operators and so we wanted to be very clear on what to expect when you book a fully-catered chalet with us!

  • Tea & Coffee in bed
  • Hot and continental breakfast
  • Afternoon tea & cake
  • Four-course evening meal
  • Beer & house wine

For evening meals, we offer a mix of fine-dining with crowd pleasers in the ratio of 2 to 1 respectively. This means that out of six evening meals, four will be more refined fayre and the other two will be family favourites. To illustrate this, we have put together a sample menu below to cover three days.

Please note that if your group is taking exclusive use of the chalet, your chef will be in touch in advance of your arrival to discuss a menu more tailored to your party.

Airport Transfers

On the assumption most of you will not be taking the Lear Jet into Méribel or Courchevel Altiport and then horse-drawn sleigh on from there, you will need an airport transfer to get you to Méribel after your bun-fight of a flight out!

We would be delighted to organise this for you from one of the following airports:

  • Chambery (109kms/ 1h15m)
  • Geneva (136km/ 2h 15m)
  • Lyon (178km/ 2h)
  • Grenoble (175km/ 2h)

How it works…

Airport transfers can be booked on a private or shared basis.

Private transfers are charged at a set fee per shuttle bus and so only become economical if you have seven or eight passengers. The capacity is generally eight passengers and you will be dropped at the door of your chalet.

Shared transfers are charged on a per person basis. For shared transfers, there are two options. The most cost-effective option is to book with a company that will transport you from the airport to the closest bus-stop to your chalet. The most convenient option is to book with a company that will transport you from the airport to the front door of your chalet although you will, of course, pay a small premium for this service.

We’re not going to pretend we hold sway with the behemoths of the skies and secure you super-cheap rates but we can take the hassle out of it for you and we do have a few useful tips to avoid the most common pitfalls.

Lift Tickets

The first problem with buying lift tickets is unravelling the mystery of what type of passes you want to purchase – Meribel Valley or the whole of the Three Valleys, lo-, mid- or hi-season?! Fear not, we can take the complexities out of this for you, make the purchase and have your pass lying waiting for when you arrive en chalet!

Equipment Hire

For the equipment you will require for the slopes, allow us to advise you on your individual requirements and then to organise a discount with a supplier very close to your chalet. Could anything be simpler…!?!

Ski & Board School

Through our sister company, SnowSkool, we can offer ski & snowboard lessons. SnowSkool has been operating instructor training courses and hi-end improver courses for skiers & snowboarders since 2004 and so we can tailor a course for anyone – from those taking their first slide on a pair of skis to those looking for some specialist big air snowboard training…and everything in between!

In every French village, there is an abode called Le Cobleur wherein the local shoe-repairer took residence. In Les Allues however, where women have historically outnumbered men (by as much as 50 to 1), the resident “sole-stress” was traditionally a woman and so the place she called home was changed, by Government decree in 1762, to La Coblette.

La Coblette is a lovely little house situated slap-bang in the centre of the village. Like many of the women of Les Allues, it is not a lot to look at but delve a little deeper and it has a lot to offer…and at a great price! A small, but perfectly-formed, kitchen opens up onto a dining area with a cosy lounge and log-burner. Over the hallway, there is a small bathroom with toilet, sink and shower.

Feel free to take even a large cat upstairs where you will find plenty of room to swing it in either of the two bedrooms – each can be configured as a twin or double room - and also in the bathroom (toilet, sink and bath).

Getting to Les Allues

Nearest Airport: Chambery at 100 Kilometres Nearest Train: Moutiers at 10 Kilometres Nearest Ski: Olympic Gondola at 450 Metres Car: Not necessary

If you are flying, the four most popular airports serving the Three Valleys (and their driving respective distances to the chalet) are: Chambery – 60 miles, Grenoble – 100 miles, Lyon – 105 miles, Geneva – 110 miles.

If you have the time and a full car, it might be worth your while to drive over. Take the ferry over the water and then drive down in 8-10 hours…depending on where you dock: Le Havre – 526 miles, Calais – 580 miles, Cherbourg - 625 miles. Please note that your quickest route will involve toll roads that will cost in the region of €50 each way. And also factor in extra time for weather and traffic delays at busy and blustery times!

The third option is to take the train – from London to Paris and then from Paris to Moutiers. Moutiers is the closest station to the chalet…just 7 miles away!

The village

On entering Les Allues, you will be required to take in a deep breath of fresh mountain air and then expel all the stresses of modern life because they are not applicable in the village! Les Allues is a lovely little, typically French village with a few restaurants & bars that do not appear to have set hours - opening when Monsieur desires and closing when Madame demands! There is a supermarket for life’s essentials and two links up to the world’s greatest ski area… the Olympic gondola and a free-of-charge bus that runs throughout the day.

Chalet Campanules

Chemin de l’Octroi is the host street for Les Campanules. Just opposite La Chaumiere (bar/restaurant) and a three minute walk to the bus stop.
