The Hosts

This chalet company was set up by Daisy, who knows St Martin through and through. After training as a chef, she couldn’t resist the call of the mountains. With six years experience of St Martin de Belleville under her belt, Daisy is a ski holiday expert.

Caitlin, the director, has over a decade of experience in the alps, and her passion for the place has led her to raise a family there.

Location

This chalet is right in the heart of the old quarter of St Martin. It has been designed to fit right into the Savoyard Alpine style and the views from the sitting room over the old rooftops are sensational down the Belleville valley.

The chalet is less than 100 metres from the closest ski lift and the centre of the village, with delightful bars, restaurants, and a baroque church.

F.A.Q.

What activities are available for non-skiers?

The emblematic 17th Century baroque church is at the heart of St Martin- and indeed the whole Belleville Valley – life. The spectacular Notre Dame de la Vie chapel sits just above the village and you can visit daily to see the splendid interior which has just opened after 3 years of renovation work. A multitude of walking routes are suitable for non-skiers (and those who would enjoy a closer look at the scenery) and don’t require snowshoes, although these add an element of fun to a walk!

For children (and big kids!), the sledging possibilities are endless. Whether it’s a ‘bum board’ on the St Martin nursery slopes or the dedicated Roc’n’Bob toboggan course which stretches for an incredible 4km (helmets and gloves essential!) we have tobogganing covered.

The Sports Centre at Les Menuires, 8km up the valley and offers a swimming pool, spa area, gym and badminton and squash courts. There are also fitness classes available.

For sheer indulgence you must visit the spa at La Bouitte (even better if you combine it with lunch in the 3 Michelin star restaurant).

What's St Martin de Belleville like?

With fabulous skiing AND being a critically-acclaimed foodie paradise, it’s a real hidden gem amongst the big name resorts of Val Thorens, Courchevel and Meribel. The baroque church and snow-topped roofs of St Martin lie at the gateway to the Belleville Valley.

At 1450m, this picturesque resort is at the same altitude as neighbouring Méribel, thus enjoying a good coverage of snow with skiing up to 3300m.

With a small (but perfectly formed) selection of low-key, civilised drinking establishments, a rowdy après-ski resort this is not! The emphasis is on relaxed drinks with friends, in a bar where you can hear each other speak. There’s some live music to be found during the week, ask your host for details or check the chalet website. If more active après-ski is more your thing, the valleys offer a huge variety – from husky sledging, paragliding, ice driving and snowmobiling.

Can my dietary requirements be catered for?

If you let your hosts know what your dietary requirements are, they’ll be happy to accommodate you. The chef will be able to adapt the menu to accommodate veggies, intolerances and allergies, so as long as he/she has advance notice, this won’t be a problem.

Fully vegan, kosher or halal options are difficult to come by, and a nut-free environment cannot be guaranteed although they’ll be happy to remove nuts from the chalet if needs be.

Do you do separate children’s meals?

Yes of course! Healthy and filling children’s meals will be served at around 5.30-6pm. Any advance notice of food loves and hates is really useful.

What should we do on the chalet day off?

St Martin is a foodie mecca, having won ‘Gastronomic Resort of the Year’ at the World Snow awards!

The chalet is very close to St Martin village centre, so you can sample some of the local restaurants and bars and there’s a full recommendation page on the company website. The team are more than happy to discuss the local restaurants to ensure you find the perfect venue, and can reserve tables in advance.
