There is something uniquely satisfying about completing a true ‘journey’ by bike and this trip certainly does just that, taking you through some of the most stunning and majestic cycling terrain enroute to the mediterranean.

The route climbs over all the cols that regularly feature in the Tour de France as well as the highest road in Europe at over 2800 metres. A slightly different route to the classic route, purely to take in some prettier and quiter roads that we have found.

Staying in hotels en route on a full board basis with a set dinner, breakfast and lunch provided. During the day you have full van support, including basic bike repair, drinks and snacks.

This really is the challenge of a lifetime being one of Europe’s great cycle tours. This route can also be completed over a longer period - if you have the time, we have the options! Please contact us if you would love to complete the route but would prefer to take a bit longer over it - we are more than happy to arrange this for you.

Day 1

Collection from Geneva airport and transport to hotel at Thonon les Bains. Build bikes and short test ride along the shores of Lake Geneva. Pre-ride briefing and photographs.

Day 2

Thonon les Bains to Flumet via the Col de Moises 1138m, Col de Ludran 938m and Col des Aravis 1486m. We take a slight deviation from the traditional route to enjoy the much quieter roads over the Cols Moises and Ludran before climbing over the last Col of the day, the relatively gentle Col Des Aravis.

Day 3

Flumet to Val d’Isere via the Col des Saisies 1650m, atmospheric Cormet de Roseland 1967m and barrage de Tignes to Val d’Isere 1840m. The first climb of the day ascends the partly wooded Col des Saisies, then descending to the valley floor once more to the foot of the atmospheric Cormet de Roseland. This climbs past a wild landscape with stunning views and a sensation of remoteness before descending once again to the town of Bourg St Maurice. A last climb to the barrage de Tignes ends at the days destination of Val d’Isere.

Day 4

From Val d’Isere 1840m to Col d’Iseran 2764m there is 800m of climbing before a long and beautiful descent to the foot of the mighty Col du Galibier 2646m. A technical descent off Galibier joins the Col de Lautaret and thankfully continues much of the way into the impressive fortress town of Briancon.

Day 5

From Briancon the route climbs past the stunning rock formations of the Col d’Izoard 2362m. Pause to pay your respects to the Coppi and Bobet monument and to take in the remarkable Casse Deserte. The second climb of the day tackles Col de Vars 2108m, which can be a punishing ascent in high temperatures, before descending to the beautiful Ubaye Valley and the evenings destination of Jausiers.

Day 6

Jausiers to St Martin Vesubie over the highest road in Europe - The col du Bonnette at 2802m. Until recently the Col d’Iseran held this title but a stretch of road was added above the Col de Restefond to make it higher by 38m. A beautiful climb with gentle gradients gives opportunities for marmotte spotting on the descent to Saint-Etienne de Tinee and final climb to col Saint Martin.

Day 7

The run to the Mediterranean from St Martin to Menton over the Col du Turinin, 1607m, which marks the last climb of the Monte Carlo rally. Pause for a cold drink in the picturesque town of Sospel before tackling the final obstacle of the trip, the gentle Col de Castillon, 628m. Once over the top it’s all downhill to enjoy the best ice cream or sorbet you’ve ever tasted in the beautiful town of Menton. Transport to you hotel, presentation of photographs and drinks to celebrate completing the challenge.

Day 8

Spend the day on the Cote d’Azur before departure and transport to Nice airport.

Staying in hotels en route on a full board basis with a set dinner, breakfast and lunch provided. During the day you have full van support, including basic bike repair, drinks and snacks.
