Taking place over the three week period every July, the Tour de France usually reserves its most dramatic moments for the high mountains and especially the Alps.

This trip gives you the chance to ride the same Alpine roads as the professionals. Come and see how you fare! Ride the climbs in the morning and then watch the show as the professional peloton comes through.

Outline programme

The 2016 Tour de France will be in our local area for three days: Thu July 21 (Stage 18, from Sallanches to Megève), Fri July 22 (Stage 19, from Albertville to Saint Gervais) and Sat July 23 (Stage 20, from Megève to Morzine). On this last day the Tour will be coming directly past our hotel. After starting in Megève, the riders will climb the col des Aravis, descend to La Clusaz and then go on to the col de la Colombière, the col de la Ramaz and finally the col de Joux Plane before finishing in Morzine. This same route will be used by the Etape du Tour on Sunday July 10th.

The program for our Tour de France week will include the opportunity to ride all three of these stages, watching the professional riders go by but also plenty of time for relaxing and enjoying your holiday. Some of our guests want to cycle 5 to 6 hours per day, whilst others are quite content with 2 hours or less.

You should plan to arrive on Sunday July 17th and depart the following Sunday, with seven nights in the hotel Beauregard 4* in La Clusaz.

  • Pick-up will be from Geneva airport between 2 and 4pm on Sun 17 July.
  • Drop-off will be at Geneva airport before 12pm on Sunday 24 July.
  • It is possible to arrive and depart on different days, however there may be an additional cost for the airport transfer.

Hotel Beauregard 4*

Your luxury Alpine home away from home

We loved the Beauregard at first sight. Our guests stay here in June and September each year. Our flagship partner hotel is a charming chalet on the edge of the village of La Clusaz. Built in traditional Alpine wood and stone and tastefully decorated throughout, it is set on a slight rise and nestled in a copse of trees, giving it a secluded and exclusive feel. This is a great place to be on holiday!

Helpful staff

The staff are lovely people, warm and welcoming, and thoroughly understand the needs of cyclists. The “Symphonie” restaurant is a real high point, offering excellent food that is great for hungry cyclists. The chef is very flexible and is always ready to cater to specific needs and requests. He also knows how important it is to start the day with an excellent breakfast!

The terrace

The terrace is THE place for evening cocktails in La Clusaz, with breathtaking views to the forested slopes of Beauregard on the other side of the valley. Many of the recently-refurbished rooms enjoy this view from their private balconies. Luxurious and comfortable, they provide an excellent night’s sleep after a day on the cols.

Pool and mini-spa

Swim in the pool or relax in the sauna, hammam or Jacuzzi: all perfect for soothing away the aches and pains of a hard day’s ride. As at its sister hotel Alpen Roc, access to all facilities, as well as free Wi-Fi, is included in your stay.

Family activities

There are a huge amount of family and childrens’ activities organised in La Clusaz during the peak summer period, suitable for all ages. You can be confident your children will be in good hands.

The top hotel in La Clusaz

For us, the 4* Beauregard is the top hotel in La Clusaz. After a week here with us, we are sure you will understand why.

La Clusaz is almost unique in the Alps in offering no fewer than five different roads out of the village, in five different directions. There is no better base from which to cycle the Alps.

The summits of three well-known climbs from the Tour de France are within less than 20 km of cycling, and in total there are thirteen major Tour de France climbs that can be reached directly by bike from la Clusaz. In a typical week, we climb nine of these.

During the Tour de France week, amongst many other climbs we will of course ride Stages 18, 19 and 20 of the 2016 Tour, which include the following cols: - Col de la Forclaz - Col des Saisies - Côte de Domancy - Col des Aravis - Col de la Colombiere - Col de la Ramaz - Col de Joux-Plane

In total there are at least 27 climbs that can be managed by any moderately fit rider in a day’s ride from our base.
