Service

We roll continuously throughout the season, so you can join us on any day and stay as long as you like :)

The cycling season begins in February, runs through until May and opens again for September & October. The hottest months on the island are June, July & August; so this is our “OFF-Season” at Stephen Roche Cycling, as the high summer sun is too intense for daily guided cycling. If you do decide to come at this time though, then do contact us about our Private Guided Rides and off season holiday packages.

OUR RIDES

We have over 15 planned routes to suit all types and all levels of rider. Here’s just a few of the epic rides you can do with us…

ALARO - Approximately 110 km , Coffee stop at 50 km in Alaro Village

A flat yet challenging ride to the historical old town of Alaro. The route takes us through quiet country roads, lined with olive and almond groves, up a couple of small climbs, and through a 50 metre section of cobbles to Alaro – our Mallorcan mini version of Paris Roubaix! We’ll stop here for a welcomed comfort stop and decide whether to take the climb back through the Orient Valley, or take it easy and head back to the hotel on flatter roads through the countryside towards Consell.

BUNYOLA - Approximately 80 km, Coffee stop at 48 km in Bunyola Village

This ride takes us north to the remarkably unspoilt village of Bunyola, a real slice of old Mallorca, with a wealth of both cultural and natural heritage. Its market square is a favourite stop for hundreds of cyclists as they refuel and find their mountain legs (and a bit of madness!) to tackle the Coll d’Honor and/or the famous Coll de Soller and its 61 renowned hairpins.

CORNICHE - Approximately 85 km , Coffee stop at 46 km in Estellence Village

Hairpin bends, sweeping climbs and dramatic descents are on today’s agenda as we take to the west coast of the island, straight into the heart of the Sierra Tramuntana. However, it’s the scenery that will take your breath away on this ride, not the climbs!

After a few steep hills we’ll descend into the charming village of Banyalbufar, famous for its stone terraces – once devoted to the production of wine and now home to olive groves and other vegetables. We’ll then make our way to the seaside village of Estellence, where we’ll refuel and have plenty of time to get those memorable holiday snap shots. The second part of the ride is as rewarding as the first, with tough climbs but fantastic views!

GALILEA MOUNTAIN ROUTE - Approximately 85 km , Coffee stop at 46 km in Esporles Village

The Galilea Mountain Route is one of our most difficult rides, with 3 major climbs. We’ll pass through the countryside of Calvia and head straight into the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. As we climb the Galilea and Puigpunyent climbs we’ll be treated to stunning views and will pass by colourful Mallorcan village houses. We’ll make our way to the picturesque village of Esporles for a well-deserved coffee stop. Our ride then continues with the famous pine covered Coll de Tords before heading back to the hotel via Calvia.

SANT ELMO - Approximately 90 km , Coffee stop at 44 km

This ride takes us north to the remarkably unspoilt village of Bunyola, favourite stop for hundreds of cyclists each year. Once we’ve refuelled, found our mountain legs (and a bit of madness!) we’ll head to the Coll d’Honor and/or the famous Coll de Soller and its 61 renowned hairpins.

SANTA MARIA - Approximately 90 km, Cake stop at 48 km in Cake Heaven

This ride takes us on a culinary journey, to the best cake shop on the island, then on through the wine growing region. Alas, before arriving in “Cake Heaven” a little riding is required! Our route takes us north through the Mallorcan countryside, on quiet roads alongside the Tramuntana mountain range. At Santa Maria del Cami, called “Cake Heaven” by Stephen Roche, you’ll be spoilt for choice. As we make our way back to the hotel we’ll discover the vineyard flat lands of Binali.

SA CALOBRA - Approximately 125 km , Lunch at 68 km at Restaurant Ca’n Gallet in Lluc

For some, Wednesday is a well-earned rest day and a chance to do some sightseeing or shopping… for others, it’s the opportunity to conquer the 3 most famous climbs in Mallorca, which are often on the hit list of any cyclist who visits the island.

After a short transfer, the adventure begins – challenge yourself to the Coll de Soller and its 61 renowned hairpins; followed by Puig Major, the mighty peak of the island, guaranteeing breathtaking scenery; before descending the famously exhilarating Sa Calobra. Once we’ve reached sea level, it’s back up into the Serra de Tramuntana for lunch!

After lunch we’ll take it easy with a long descent to flatter terrain where your transfer will be waiting to take you back to the hotel.

Location

Cycle-friendly Mallorca

Mallorca is an obviously “cycle-friendly” location – Amateurs and Pros have been coming here for decades. The local community are well aware of the valuable business that cycling brings to their shores and make little issue of giving right of way to the many cycling groups that descend upon the roads, across the island, each season; and for the leisure cyclists, there is an extensive, network of cycle lanes – safely segregated from vehicle traffic.

The island offers an incredible variety of both leisurely and demanding rides, making it a popular destination for amateur and professional cyclists alike – thousands arrive every year to travel Mallorca’s highways and byways on two wheels. Most notably, the island is a favourite location for Team Sky for their winter training camps and many of the other pro-tour, road racing teams come to Mallorca too, to take advantage of the challenging landscape and the warm, dry weather.

The dramatic terrain of the Tramuntana mountains provides the perfect cycling playground for anyone wanting to test their strength and endurance in the saddle.

If you’re more of a leisure cyclist though, don’t fret! There are plenty of magnificent, flatter, rolling routes through picturesque olive groves and orchards, away from the more dramatic climbs of the western coast. Whatever your level of abiity, the ideal ride is waiting for you in Mallorca!
