A mythical itinerary that follows in the footsteps of the legendary Tour de France! Ride from the Northern to the Southern Alps, from Mont Blanc to the Mediterranean, taking in a huge variety of alpine landscapes along the way. Enjoy Fantastic panoramic views of the entire Alps range and choose between two slightly different routes each day, with varying distances and profiles. We also include the option of being accompanied by non-cycling friends or family, who you can meet up with each evening at the end of the day’s “stage”.

All given prices are per person :

Itinerary

Day 1: Thonon-les-Bains - La Clusaz

Itinerary start : Rendezvous with organization team is fixed on day 1 at 9 am at SNCF train station of Thonon les Bains. On demand we can book for you one night in Thonon Les Bains for the previous day. We can also organize a transfer from Geneva airport.

Passes of the day:

  • Col de Jambaz (1027 m) (2 wheels)
  • Col de Joux Plane (1712m) (3 wheels)
  • Col de la Colombière (1613 m)

Highlights:

  • A warm up on lightly traveled, pastoral small roads on the Jambaz pass.
  • Colombiere pass: first difficulty of the week, but also the first real beautiful pass of the Alps……
  • Le Grand Bornand : A very reputable ski resort known for the beauty of its mountain chalet and its authenticity.

Distance and altitude gain:

  • 2 wheels : approx. 90 km and 1900 m
  • 3 wheels : approx. 115 km and 2950 m

Day 2: La Clusaz - Bourg Saint Maurice

Passes of the day:

  • Col des Aravis (1486 m)
  • Col des Saisies (1650 m)
  • Col du Joly (1989 m) (3 wheels optional)
  • Col du Pré (1703m) (3 wheels)
  • Cormet de Roselend (1967 m)

Highlights:

  • Traverse the Aravis mountain chain by way of the pass which holds the same name. A super view point onto the massif of the Mont Blanc (4810 m).
  • Pass through Les Saisies, a ski resort known for its Olympic cross country skiing.
  • Traverse Beaufortain, a massif in a very lively, agricultural domain and known for the fabrication of the Beaufort cheese (possibility to visit the cheese cooperative).
  • Lake Roseland and its turquoise waters, dominated by the surrounding alpine pastures….

Distance and altitude gain:

  • 2 wheels : approx. 90 km and 2500 m
  • 3 wheels : approx. 110 km and 2200 m (with Col du Joly : + 28 km and 900 m)

Day 3: Bourg Saint Maurice - Aussois

Passes of the day:

  • Iseran pass (2762 feet)

Highlights:

  • Liaison between the two biggest valleys of the Alps : Tarentaise and Maurienne
  • Iseran pass: simply, one of the most beautiful and longest passes in the Alps…
  • Panoramas onto the Vanoise National Park
  • Small, traditional villages with their stone houses (Le Miroir, La Gurraz….)…..where time seems to stand still.

  • 2 wheels : approx. 95 km and 2200 m
  • 3 wheels : approx. 95 km and 2400 m

Day 4: Aussois - Briançon

Passes of the day:

  • Col du Télégraphe (1566m) (2 wheels)
  • Col du Galibier (2645m) (2 wheels)
  • Col de la Croix de Fer (2067m) (3 wheels)
  • Col du Glandon (1924m) (3 wheels)
  • Col du Lautaret (2058m)

Highlights:

  • A whole chain of the mythical passes of the Tour de France !
  • Valloire resort and its enchanting setting
  • Galibier’s « high mountain » ambiance.
  • Panoramas onto the Ecrins and Meije, its famous summit.

Distance and altitude gain:

  • 2 wheels : approx. 105 km and 2100 m
  • 3 wheels : approx. 145 km and 2900 m

Day 5: Briançon - Barcelonnette

Passes of the day:

  • Col de l’Isoard (2360m) (3 wheels)
  • Col de Vars (2109m)

Highlights

  • The sensation of passing through the Northern Alps to the Southern Alps and the larch forests.
  • Between Briançon and Guillestre, a clever itinerary which allows us to avoid the very frequented routes (passage at the entrance to the Vallouise valley).

  • 3 wheels : approx. 105 km and 2100 m

Day 6: Barcelonnette - Beuil

Passes of the day:

  • Col de la Cayolle (2326m) (2 Räder)
  • Col d’Allos (2250m) (3 Räder)
  • Col des Champs (2087m) (3 Räder)
  • Col de Valberg (1650m)

Highlights:

  • Cayolle pass : a superb ascent into the very heart of Mercantour National Park.
  • The gorges of Bachelard

Distance and altitude gain:

  • 2 wheels : approx. 90 km and 1900 m
  • 3 wheels : approx. 110 km and 2300 m

Day 7: Beuil - Turini Pass

Passes of the day:

  • Col de la Couillole (1678m)
  • Col de Saint Martin (1500m)
  • Col de Turini (1604m)

Highlights:

  • Winding mountain roads in very typical southern Alp country sides: minerals, larches, pine trees….
  • Roubion village
  • Les « gorges rouges » (the red gorges) of Tinee valley and its impetuous torrents
  • Turini, last big challenge of our trek….to savor!

Distance and altitude gain:

  • 2 and 3 wheels : approx. 90 km and 2000 m

Day 8: Turini Pass - Menton

Passes of the day:

  • Col de l’Orme (1005m)
  • Col de l’Ablé (1169m)
  • Col de Braus (1002m)
  • Col de Castillon (370m)

Highlights:

  • Cycling knowing that one has finished the last Alpine difficulties…
  • The superb sequence of small passes (Orme, Able, Braus) with many views of the Mediterranean.
  • The arrival at the sea !!!…

Distance and altitude gain:

  • 2 and 3 wheels : approx. 55 km and 600 m

Itinerary end : The trip ends in Menton at about noon. On demand we can book for you supplementary nights in Menton, organize a transfer to Nice airport or bring you back to Thonon or Geneva airport with the assistance vehicle.

The given length (Km) and altitude difference (m) are given as reference and can slightly change depending on unpredictable local conditions
