Service & Itinerary back to top

It takes in many of the existing Tour des Alpes climbs with more time spent in Italy, most notably climbing the epic Colle delle Finestre. This is a trip that will particularly appeal to riders who have already ridden with us in the Alps looking for new climbs and from different directions to those encountered on Grand Tour du Sud and Tour des Alpes.

What’s included?

  • 6 days of fully supported rides (mechanical assistance, vehicle support, guides)
  • 7 nights half board accommodation, twin share
  • Transfers to and from Geneva airport
  • Informal evening lectures available from a qualified cycling coach offering training advice in preparation for cycling events

What’s not included?

  • Lunches
  • Flights
  • Travel insurance

Who is this trip aimed at?

The Tour des Alpes + is a big week of consecutive rides. Each day will consist of 100-130km and an average of around 2750m of climbing. This trip is a big step up in challenge from our Alpine Workshops and Tour du Mont Blanc. It is a comparable challenge to our toughest trips, the Grand Tour du Sud and The Giro Dolomiti. Usually, but not always, riders on this trip will have ridden alpine climbs before. As always, drop us a line to discuss if this trip is going to suit you.

VAM rating

Riders on this trip would need to be capable of climbing at a rate of at least 800 metres/hour for sustained periods

Itinerary

Wednesday September 7th

Arrive Geneva between 1300 - 1600. Met by our minibuses and taken to the our base near Bourg St Maurice (approx transfer time 2 hours) . Plenty of time to get bikes made up and organised followed by a hearty dinner. After dinner there will be an informal chat to discuss the plans for the following days.

Thursday September 8th - Bourg St Maurice to Susa - 120km and 3000m climbing

A big day to start the trip with the Col de l’Iseran followed by the Col du Montcenis. A fantastic descent into the Italy as we spend the night in Italy.

Friday September 9th - Susa to Briançon - 95km and 2800m climbing

The dramatic Colle delle Finestre will be the big challenge of the day. Used in this year’s Giro it is not only long, steep and spectacular but also includes 8km of unsealed dirt road for a proper Giro experience. After Sestriere we’ll climb the pretty Col de l’Echelle followed by a descent into Briançon.

Saturday September 10th - Briançon to Gap - 120km and 2500m climbing

Col d’Izoard will be the first spectacular hurdle of the day followed by a valley ride through to Guillestre. We’ll climb up to Chorges with magnificent views over Lac de Serre Ponçon and then onto our hotel in Gap.

Sunday September 11th - Gap to Alpe d’Huez - 125km and 2800m climbing

Col de Manse and Col d’Ornon will make up an exceptionally pretty ride followed by the ascension of Alpe d’Huez where we’ll spend the night.

Monday September 12th - Alpe d’Huez to La Chambre - 90km and 2400m climbing

A spectacular balcony ride from Alpe d’Huez will take us to the foot of the Croix de Fer climb. After this long climb we’ll descend into the Maurienne valley before tackling the Lacets de Montverniers, an amazing concentration of hairpins made famous by the 2015 Tour. Col de Chaussy finishes our day off in style.

Tuesday September 13th - La Chambre to Bourg St Maurice - 130km and 2800m climbing

A big final day as we ride the Col de la Madeleine followed by the full length of the Cormet de Roselend from Albertville. One of the best descents in the Alps will be a fitting end to the trip as we arrive back in Bourg St Maurice

Wednesday September 14th

We’ll get you back to Geneva Airport after assisting you with packing bikes. We’ll head to Geneva airport at around 1000 with a view to catching flights from 1400 onwards.
