The Tour de France is coming to Morzine!
This is your chance to get close to the action and experience the biggest bike race in the world and ride the roads where the stories will unfold.
The design of the 2016 course should see the race go to the wire, and the climbs in and around Morzine are where everything could be won and lost. Here’s what’s included on this unforgettable week:

  • Daily fully-supported, van-assisted rides on the Tour climbs.
  • Tour de France stage visits.
  • Energy drink, bars and gels during each ride.
  • Airport transfers on arrival and departure day.
  • Catered chalet

The Plan

Like Alpe d’Huez in 2015, the Col de Joux Plane is the final climb of the race, coming on the penultimate day of racing. The winner could still be undecided as the riders approach the summit at full gas before a thrilling and technical descent to the finish line in the centre of Morzine.

These include Col de Joux Plane, Col de la Joux Vert, Col de la Colombiere, Col de la Ramaz, Col de la Forclaz, Col de l’Encrenaz and the climb from Morzine to the Avoriaz ski station.

For those wishing to compare themselves against the Tour riders there will be the opportunity to set a time on the climb to Megéve which is the individual mountain time trial of the Tour on Thursday 21st.

If it’s your first cycling trip to the mountains we will be there to give advice and support. The weather can be changeable, even in July, so we will recommend which clothing to wear and give nutritional advice so you get the most from each ride.
Here’s the plan for the week:

Sunday 17th July

We recommend a morning flight into Geneva where we will collect you and transfer you back to the chalet. After settling in and assembling the bikes we will head out for a short ride to familiarise yourself with the area, maybe taking in one climb before heading back to the chalet for dinner.

Monday 18th July - Wednesday 20th July

Our typical riding day begins with breakfast at 8am so we are ready for a 9am departure. Each ride is usually between 4-5 hours taking in the climbs of the area. There will be a coffee stop at a suitable mountain top cafe so you can take in the views. You are not committed to riding the full route each day as the support van is with you at all times.

A more detailed itinerary will be finalised prior to your arrival but each ride will tackle one or two big climbs such as Col de Joux Plane, Col de la Joux Vert, Col de la Colombiere, Col de la Ramaz, Col de la Forclaz, Col de l’Encrenaz and the climb from Morzine to the Avoriaz ski station.

We will stop for lunch either during or after each ride, depending on time before heading back to the chalet to relax and catch the Tour stages on TV. Our massage therapist will be at the chalet from 4pm for those who have pre-booked any treatments.

Dinner is served at 7:30pm.

Thursday 21st July

Today we will ride to Sallanches for the individual mountain time trial stage Tour stage. The 17k climb to Megéve could see the GC order change dramatically, and the stage is one for the climbers looking to set themselves up for two big days ahead.

Following the stage we’ll drive you back to the chalet.

Friday 22nd July

Saint-Gervais Mont-Blanc hosted the stage finish of the Critérium du Dauphiné in 2015 where Chris Froome took the win. Today’s Tour stage uses the same finishing climb.

After breakfast we will drive closer to the stage finish and ride the final climb. We’ll find the best spot to see the race pass. Being the final climb of one of the later stages of the race, the GC contenders won’t be holding back and you can expect a lot of attacking racing on the climb.

Following the stage we’ll descend back to the support van at the foot of the climb and head back to the chalet for dinner.

Saturday 23rd July:

Today is going to be huge. It’s the final mountain stage of the Tour, and it’s a monster.

By now you will be familiar with the Col de Joux Plane having ridden it earlier in the week. After an early breakfast we will ride into Morzine to soak up the atmosphere at the stage finish before climbing to the summit of the Joux Plane to find the best spot to see the riders pass. For those not wishing to ride today there is the option to stay in town and see the winner cross the finish line. The rider wearing the yellow jersey on the podium in Morzine will be the 2016 Tour de France champion.

We will have dinner and drinks in Morzine that evening to celebrate the end of an amazing week.

Sunday 24th July: Departure

After breakfast you will pack your bike and we will transfer you back to Geneva airport for your flight home.

We are very proud of our new build chalet constructed from green oak, a very rare build in this area and the first in Morzine. The amazing oak frame is viewable throughout the chalet.

Designer wallpaper and fabrics are visible throughout the chalet. Colefax and Fowlers ‘Marchwood Black’ and Andrew Martins ‘Library’ wallpapers feature in the living area along with Sanderson Indigo/Madder fabrics which blend beautifully with the solid oak wood flooring (no laminate) and slate floor tiles where where heat is supplied through underfloor heating.

In every bedroom there is beautiful wool carpet to make the rooms feel warm and cosy.

All the rooms have en-suite facilities with full sized baths with showers and are each unique with stone carved sinks and one-off designs. Linen is unique to each suite with feather duvets and pillows. Each of the bathrooms have hairdryers, bath and hand towels, face cloths and bath/shower/hair and body moisturising products from Gilchrist and Soames, Faith in Nature or L’Occitane.

A great place to spend time off the bike too, Morzine has plenty going on with lots of shops, restaurants, bars and sports facilities to check out. There will be a carnival atmosphere in town all week and you’ll very much be part of it.

Chalet du Chene is close to the centre of town, at the heart of where the action will be taking place. The final three Tour stages are very close, and the final mountain stage on Saturday is on the doorstep.
