Jo(October 2023)

This was my third Much Better Adventures trip and it exceeded all expectations.

The ‘hiking and rafting’ day was 12 hours long and jam-packed with lots of scenic stops and walks.

In the morning, we started with a short ascent to Pericnik Waterfall, which you then walk behind. This was followed by a 30-minute stop at Lake Jasna for lunch before heading to Vršič Pass for a 45-minute walk.

In the afternoon, we rafted at Soča - I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful place to have my first rafting experience. The experience itself was so much fun! (Be prepared to change in the car park though.)

Following the rafting experience, we crossed the border into Italy to swim in a lake with an incredible mountain backdrop! For me, this was definitely a highlight of the trip.

Our guide, Jan, really made the experience. He was super knowledgeable and prepared drinks for us up the mountain and after rafting. He took LOTS of photos throughout the day, which allows you to just enjoy what is in front of you. He had also made a playlist for the car journey that comprised of songs from individuals’ home countries.

The ‘canyoning’ day was also lots of fun. The majority of the group were nervous about this activity but our guide, Jure, put us at ease. We were given the option of two canyons with different difficulty ratings; we opted for Jereka with the lower difficulty rating. There were two jumps: one was optional and the other could be assisted by Jure if you were too nervous to do it. The rest of the experience involved slides, ropes and very small jumps. Despite the lower difficulty rating, we all enjoyed it. (But again, be prepared to change in the car park or wait for the one outdoor changing area with curtain.)

Overall, I would definitely recommend this trip and would absolutely book through the local tour operator again. A special shout-out to Barbara the host for arranging extra accommodation nights for us and responding to our messages so promptly.

Lauren(June 2023)

Great weekend away in Slovenia, such a beautiful country. Guides were great, had lots of local knowledge and felt safe whilst doing the activities. Can’t wait to see the photos!

Suzi(September 2022)

The trip was an amazing experience. Jan was really knowledgeable about the local area and history and I learnt a lot from the hikes. Rafting and canyoning were so much fun!

Ben(September 2022)

The excursions felt very exclusive.. other groups seemed crowded or at least crowded together.. especially the rafting. Our guides seemed to be the best too and full of experience and knowledge with a suitable amount of adrenaline fuelled bonkers ness! But always felt in safe hands !!

Gracie(May 2022)

This trip is so much fun!! My first MBA trip and I wouldn't hesitate booking again.

Saturday is a really full on day, about 12 hours with hiking in the morning and rafting in the afternoon. Our rafting guide was brilliant, super encouraging and nothing felt rushed.

Canyoning is exciting and the guides have levels for everything if you feel scared/uncomfortable. Although the hike up in the wetsuits is a sweaty one.

We had a fantastic group and made so many good memories. Just patiently awaiting the guides photos to be sent through!

Phillip(May 2022)

This was an excellent trip. I would say we got more than our moneys worth, and the excursions were challenging and approachable for all levels of ability in the group.

Sean(October 2021)

Such a great trip, would strongly recommend to others! Really gave me the bug for rafting, and all the guides and instructors were top class. All the kit/gear was tip top, really impressed. Can't wait to get back to Slovenia!!

James(October 2019)

Anna(September 2019)

Prompt, great equipment, fantastic explanation of the history of the local area, very witty team.

Saturday was full-on with a 12-hour schedule. The guides were really good on both days. It was so much better than advertised.

Nikki(September 2019)

The guides were super friendly and knowledgeable! Everything was extremely well coordinated and ran very smoothly!

The activities and friendly atmosphere were great.

Neil(June 2019)

Quality of the hosts and the itinerary were amazing.

Matthew(June 2019)

One of the best experiences I have done. The guides were all friendly and knowledgeable and the sheer range of activities was amazing, we packed so much into the 2 days.

Karl(June 2019)

Everything was amazing, the activities, the organisation, Hosts (JAKA - G.O.A.T), location, accommodation and the company made for the best weekend adventure ever. Have already recommended this trip to friends and family.

Olwyn(June 2019)

Well organised, excellent guides and clean accommodation.

Marcus(May 2019)

Jaka is literally the G.O.A.T of Slovenia (greatest of all time). Amazing sense of humour. Even before we'd set off, we managed to convince the rest of the group that he'd accidentally left his kid at the roadside. Jani was also amazing. All the instructors (rafting, canyoning, etc) were equally as friendly and helpful.

Richard(May 2019)

The guides that we had over the two days of activities were engaging, friendly, funny and very knowledgable.

Andrea(May 2019)

The trip was well organised, guides were knowledgeable & very friendly.

Zavijava(May 2019)

Absolutely everything was great!! Loved every second.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 47kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.

No previous rafting, hiking or canyoning experience is needed, just a good level of fitness, the ability to swim and a willingness to handle 4-5 hours of physical activity each day. You can also sit out any of the activities you wish.

Honestly, it's some of the best rafting in Slovenia! The Soča River offers a scenic and fun experience with some moderate class II, III and III+ rapids. The water is clear and has a unique emerald colour, that makes it one of the most beautiful rivers in the world.

You'll be led by an experienced and safety-focused guide. Expect to be in and out of water a lot, negotiating obstacles, and jumping off rocks into deep blue pools.

The minimum height is 145cm (4ft 9in) and the maximum weight is 120kg (242lbs). Participants must also be able to swim.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Summer in Bled is generally warm and sunny; from May to September temperatures range from 10°C to 25°C. Sunny skies are usual and any storms are typically brief – but activities on this trip normally operate in rain or shine. However, while extreme weather is very uncommon, it can impact on the activities on this trip. In the event that a planned activity cannot be run safely, an alternative activity will be offered.

You can safely leave any excess luggage in your room at your accommodation during this trip.

Our recommended travel insurance provider is Campbell Irvine.

Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures and you are required to provide your policy information before departing.

Your insurance should include adequate protection for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment and the specific activities involved on your adventure. We also strongly recommend it includes cancellation and curtailment insurance, should you be unable to join your trip for specific reasons such as illness.

We fully endorse Campbell Irvine as their insurance offers all of the above, so get in touch with them or call on 020 7938 1734 to get your insurance sorted. We suggest that you book travel insurance as soon as you book your adventure, just to cover you for any last-minute life changes. We know you’re an active lot and injuries do happen!

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.

  • 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
