What is the food like?

Finnish cuisine blends traditional and modern continental food to create some delicious and varied dining opportunities. Dishes commonly include fish, pork, beef or reindeer, as well as lots of vegetables and mushrooms. Typical meals include cabbage rolls, hearty stews, meatballs and fish prepared in a number of ways. While camping the food will be simple, hearty, healthy and fresh.

What is the accommodation like?

Helsinki

You'll stay in a twin-room with en-suite in a seaside hotel with gulf views. Your stay includes breakfast.

The islands

You'll wild camp in a spacious 3-person expedition tent shared by two people. If the weather is nice, you can even sleep on the shore under the stars. Sleeping pads and mats are provided.

Day 1

Helsinki

Meet your host at Helsinki Airport and head for your waterside hotel in the city. Meet the rest of your team and spend the evening exploring Finland's beautiful capital city.

Day 2

The Gulf of Finland

Kayaking

6hrs

Cross the short distance to the launch point, pack your stuff into a dry bag and after a safety briefing, paddle onto the beautiful Gulf of Finland - there’s no fixed route, so you can explore at will! Keep an eye out for wildlife like grey seals and sea eagles and feel free to pull up on any pristine beach that takes your fancy. Stop for lunch on a remote island before continuing to your campsite where you can enjoy a tranquil evening by the sea and indulge in a well-earned, three-course dinner cooked over the campfire.

Day 3

A final paddle

Kayaking

3hrs

Wake up to an incomparable view of the gulf and enjoy coffee and breakfast around the campfire. Launch onto the bay and gradually make your way back to the mainland, arriving around midday. Take a warming shower, eat lunch and then transfer back to the airport in time for your flight home.

Please Note

All our adventures take place in wild places. Things can go wrong in wild places. Your perfectly planned itinerary may change a bit (or a lot) if the weather turns, someone gets hurt, or a volcano erupts. Usually though, changes make it all the better.

Sure can! Over 50% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

From May to early June the sea is still quite cold but daytime temperatures are around 20°C. From mid-June to mid-September temperatures range from 15-25 °C and the sea also gets warmer. At the end of September the temperatures start to decline again.

Summer nights are very short and don't really get dark at all. From mid-August onward the nights get darker, revealing starry skies and sometimes even the Aurora Borealis.

Any excess luggage can be securely stored at the hotel whilst you are out on the water.
