Your base is nestled in the shade of beech trees, on the banks of the river Piva near the Bosnia Herzegovina border. You will be staying in one of 7 new wooden bungalows or in one of 8 twin bedrooms in the main building.

The camp was purpose built in 2015 by your hosts. In harmony with our natural riverside settings, each of the cabins exhibits the rustic charm of Montenegrin pioneer cabins, with the addition of a few contemporary comforts like private bath with warm water and comfy beds. Some bungalows have 2, 3 or 4 single beds, while the others with double beds are more suitable for couples.

The main building houses the restaurant, from where our chef prepares a fresh and delicious menu based on mix of traditional and modern Montenegrin healthy cuisine. Portions are generous, and you can enjoy your meals in the restaurant or under the shade of a beech tree exchanging stories of the day.

Wi-Fi is available free of charge but you should plan to spend your free time down on the banks of the crystal clear and excessively beautiful Piva River, or around the campfire in the evenings.

If you prefer camping just bring your own camping gear or rent a tent and sleeping bags from us.

The Piva Regional Nature Park and Durmitor National Park are located in the northwest of Montenegro close to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. This breathtaking region has not yet been discovered by much of the world, but is rightly acclaimed and protected as a World Heritage Area. It was formed by glaciers and is traversed by rivers and underground streams, leaving a dramatic landscape marked by dense pine forests and interspersed by clear lakes and limestone plateaus cut by a network of deep canyons formed by the Tara, Piva, Komarnica and Susica rivers.

This is one of the cleanest, least spoilt and most important ecological parts of the country, home to more than 1500 species of plants, many of them endeminc, large mammals including Brown Bear, Grey Wolf, European Wild Cat and River Otter and 130 recorded birds including Golden and Short-toed Eagle, Honey Buzzard, Peregrine Falcon, Capercaillie and Black Grouse. The endangered Danube Salmon, under heavy pressure from overuse and dam construction elsewhere in its natural habitat, continues to live in the rivers of the park.

On the first day you’ll be rafting through crystal clear, drinkable, bright blue water of the Tara river. Protected as UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Tara canyon is the deepest and longest in Europe, cutting through dramatic limestone cliffs up to 1.3km depth and 78km long. It is also home to the 2009 World Rafting Championships with good reason. There are rocky and pebbly terraces, sandy beaches, high cliffs, and more than 80 large caves along the canyon. The Tara River is the biggest European supply of drinking water - so pure you can drink it straight from the raft!

The Nevidio canyon, your destination on day two, is a place where millions of years ago the mountains of Durmitor and Vojnik crashed into each other. The River Komarnica has since cut this canyon deep in the severe rock long time ago. Your starting point is the village Poscenje, one of the most beautiful villages in Montenegro, with two wonderful glacier lakes and an amazing waterfall with pours the waters of the Grabovica from a 70 meter high cliff. Your first encounter with Nevidio will take your breath away and set the tone for the day, as the river Komarnica suddenly disappears in the strangely carved entrance and becomes invisible to the human eye.

The same day you will head into Durmitor National Park and explore the shores of the Black Lake - a glistening, bright blue lake surrounded by forest clad mountains and impressive limestone peaks.

The Tara canyon, protected as UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the deepest and longest in Europe, and one of Europe’s top rafting spots. Our starting point is Brstanovica, close to small village Scepan Polje. This is the best part for rafting, often called “adrenaline”, and is where the World Rafting Championship was held in 2009. The 21 rapids are all grade 3 and 4, and fall in an 18km stretch. Grade 3 and 4 rapids are big enough to get the heart racing and challenge even experienced rafters, but are not out of reach of the adventurous amateur.

Throw yourself in to the heart of the last conquered canyon in Europe - the name Nevidio (Never Seen) speaks for itself – it is hardly accessible. The canyon is 2,700 meters long, and in some places squeezes down to only 0.5m wide. You’ll be swimming through narrow sections, jumping into pools, swimming, wading, and diving your way through it. Your experienced guides will help you cross every obstacle on the way and keep you safe at all time. The water is chilly in the canyon, but you will warm in the wetsuits provided.

Your chef Mica brings years of river running and cooking experience to the menus. Whenever possible and practical fresh products from known local farmers and households are sourced. Montenegrin cuisine can be divided into Northern, Continental and Mediterranean, each with distinctive tastes. Expects lots of fresh and organic fish and meat.

  • Typical breakfast: fresh tea and coffee, a hot breakfast such as made-to-order omelets, fresh donuts, fried eggs and bacon, ham and sausage. A cold option of locally made cheese, granola, yogurt, milk and fresh fruit.
  • Typical lunch: You’ll be hungry when you get in, so lunches are opulent. Start with delicious soups, followed by excellent quality meat (lamb, veal, chicken, trout or pork), delicious pastas chocked full of fresh veggies, and spiced with various herbs.
  • Typical dinner: Your day in the sun winds down with freshly grilled local specialties cevapi, pljeskavica, raznjici, musaka or different pastas with veggies or mushrooms, fresh cheeses, rice and chips, with fresh salads and pastries to compliment the menu.

Absolutely. All food is freshly prepared on the premises and your hosts can accommodate any special dietary requests. Just let us know when you book.

You really do not need any rafting or canyoning experience. Your guide will give you full instructions and a safety briefing at the start. You’ll just need reasonable levels of fitness to handle approx 3-4 hours of activity. Participants for the canyoning must be over 18 years old, swimmers, not suffering from any kind of heart or lung diseases.

Book on to our pre set dates above. If you are considering alternative dates, the perfect time for this adventure is between end of June and late September. Rafting can be done from as early as April.

Our Epic Weekends are very social in nature and we’ve seen lots of new friendships born out of them. Expect a mix of like-minded solo travellers and very small groups of 2 or 3, all with a shared appreciation of escaping the city for the great outdoors to try something new and meet new people.

Summer is the best season to explore the Montenegrin mountains. The average temperature is around 25 degrees, at night it cools down, so may want some warmer clothes to sit comfortably around the fire at night.

Transfers will be designed to meet the only Thursday afternoon Easyjet flight from Gatwick to Tivat - ETA either 13.55 or 18.15 depending on the dates. For the return, transfers will take you for the Ryanair flight from Podgorica to Stansted departing at 11am. You can of course get other flights to suit you, but aim to fit them with these arrival, departure times if you want to use the included transfers. * For extra financial protection against unforeseen circumstances, such as erupting Icelandic Volcanoes, we recommend you book your flights using a Credit Card.

Sure can! A lot of people do.

Of course! For private groups of four or more the trip can run on any days you wish, be extended or changed to suit your needs. Enquire now for a private trip.

This trip will run with a minimum of 4 people, and a maximum of 14. There may be other people staying at your base, but you will be privately guided during the days, with a maximum of 7 people per guide.
