Location

View map

The Sunnmore Alps of western Norway are a particularly majestic range of peaks rising straight out of Hjorund Fjord to heights of 1700m. The lower elevations of the range are heavily forested, transitioning to beautiful alpine terrain. Mount Slogen, though just 1564m high, is considered one of the top 10 mountain walks in Norway due to its beauty, view and prominence.

Nearby towns include Stranda and Alesund. Stranda is a small coastal town with a population of just 2,600. It is very scenic with fjords to the west, the Sunnmore Alps to the east, and a river running through town. Alesund is a small city known for its Art Nouveau architecture. It is the easiest access point to the region.

Summers in Norway are sunny and warm, though the weather can still be fickle. Daytime temperatures average 12 – 20 °C, and nights cool down to 5 – 10 °C. It rains more than half the days each month, but storms are typically followed by picture-perfect blue skies. Though too far south to experience the Midnight Sun, summer days in Stranda are very long, and there’s no true night from May through August.

You’ll need to pack a variety of clothing for hiking in variable weather conditions, and comfortable clothes for nights in the lodge:
