Camp on the remote island of Sfaktiria and munch on a traditional Greek dinner cooked over the campfire

Day 1

Meet your crew and eat out in Kalamata

Head to Kalamata, check in, get settled and then enjoy a delicious dinner while gazing out over the Mediterranean.

Day 2

Kayak along the coast and camp under the stars

Kayaking

2hrs · 6km

Hiking

2hrs · 5km

With your kayak waiting for you on the beach, review safety and skills and then embark on a day of adventure along the coast, paddling past secluded coves and keeping an eye out for sea turtles.

Your first stop is Voidokoilia, one of the best beaches in Greece. Spend some time swimming and snorkeling in the turquoise waters, then hike up to Navarino Castle for incredible views over the bay.

Walk back to the beach via Gialova Lagoon, a wetland that serves as an important migratory bird hotspot. You might see egrets, herons, sandpipers, osprey, harriers and more.

Finish the day with a paddle to Sfaktiria, a remote island and your home for the night. Camp on the beach, cook a traditional Greek dinner, and indulge in a glass of wine beneath the night sky.

Day 3

Explore the waters around Fanari and then head home

Kayaking

Wake up in a Mediterranean paradise and enjoy a fresh breakfast. Today you'll paddle south along the island’s coast to Fanari - a tiny islet boasting a rock arch and numerous sea caves.

What is the food like?

Greek food is fresh and flavorful. Common dishes include Greek salad, moussaka (kind of like lasagna), souvlaki (meat skewers served on a platter or in a wrap), and dolmades (stuffed grape leaves). Breakfasts are typically light, with fresh fruit, olives, and yogurt providing the staples.

Any dietary needs can be catered for, just let us know upon booking.

What is the accommodation like?

Kalamata

You’ll stay at a modern, 3-star, family run guesthouse just metres from the beach. The guesthouse features ensuite double rooms with a TV and fridge, and free wifi. It can vary by group but in most cases the rooms are twin ensuite rooms, based on same-gender sharing.

Sfaktiria

At your remote campsite on Sfaktiria you'll sleep in a 2 person tent (same gender sharing). We provide a sleeping mat and sleeping bag.

Upgrades

For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room and tent can be booked for an extra charge, see Optional Extras for the price . Please request this at the time of booking (this is subject to availability).

Philippa(September 2019)

Everything was amazing! Our guides were brilliant and words do not do justice to describe how brilliant they made this trip.

Gabriella(September 2019)

Everything about the trip was great - the scenery we saw, the gorgeous water we got to swim in, the perfect kayaking conditions, and the historical background our host gave us to the locations we visited. The spirit of the group was really friendly and relaxed, and the flexible itinerary meant we had freedom in choosing together what to do next. Even though we had all only just met we all bonded very quickly and had so many laughs! I felt like I was able to really challenge myself on this trip, too, and in all it was a really rewarding experience thanks to the expertise of our host.

Everything was great.

Kristin(May 2019)

The trip was amazing, and that was mostly thanks to the fantastic and enthusiastic hosts who planned everything perfectly and in the most flexible way possible. When the weather conditions changed, they were quick to change the plan accordingly without us losing out on any fun experience. The hosts also did a fantastic job in helping our group become a fantastic and strong team - despite all odds of having to kayak against a wind storm. I'm sure I'll be back, thanks again!

Campsite, hosts, hike to castle and dinner were great.

A reasonable level of fitness is needed, but no previous kayaking experience is required. More important is an adventurous and positive spirit!

Sure can! Over 50% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

The climate in the Peloponnese is Mediterranean. Summer temperatures average 15 – 26°C, and winters cool down to about 11 – 19 °C. Days are generally clear and sunny, especially in the summer when there’s very little chance of rain.

Absolutely. We can arrange this for you at the hotel if required.

Yes of course. This can be left in your hosts vehicles.

Our recommended travel insurance provider is Campbell Irvine.

Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures and you are required to provide your policy information before departing.

Your insurance should include adequate protection for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment and the specific activities involved on your adventure. We also strongly recommend it includes cancellation and curtailment insurance, should you be unable to join your trip for specific reasons such as illness.

We fully endorse Campbell Irvine as their insurance offers all of the above, so get in touch with them or call on 020 7938 1734 to get your insurance sorted. We suggest that you book travel insurance as soon as you book your adventure, just to cover you for any last-minute life changes. We know you’re an active lot and injuries do happen!

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.

If you wish to change the currency you pay in, head to the bottom of the page.

All of our group adventures are specially designed for adults to enjoy (18+) as we want these adventures to bring together outdoorsy people who are truly like-minded. Children can be accommodated on some private departures.

You're always in good company on one of our adventures.

Our trips are typically made up of a mixture of solo travellers and small groups of 2 or 3 friends, with most in their 30s-50s.

Our sociable adventures are solo-friendly by design and naturally attract outdoorsy people with a shared mindset; a love for adventure, a desire to push themselves and meet awesome, like-minded people along the way.

It’s this camaraderie that has so often turned a great adventure into a life-changing one.

Don't just take our word for it:

  • 95% of people rate the group dynamics on our trips 5/5
  • 90% of people recommend joining a trip to make new friends
  • 75% of people have met people on our trips that they would now consider friends
