Head beyond the Arctic Circle and into the frosty landscape of the Pyhä-Luosto National Park

Don your crampons and ice axes and climb the Korouoma Canyon, the highest ice wall in Finland

Chase and learn how to photograph the aurora borealis – it's wildfire in the sky

Day 1

The adventure begins

Northern lights Finland

Hiking

2hrs · 1km · 70m up · 70m down

Head into the Finnish wilderness and settle into a cabin in the woods, where your guide will lay out the plan for the next few days. After a welcome dinner with your fellow adventurers, wrap up well and head outside in search of the spectacular aurora borealis. Your guides will bring tripods along and teach you how to successfully photograph the Northern Lights in all their glory.

Day 2

Trek and snowshoe the Pyhä-Luosto National Park

Snowshoeing

5hrs · 9km · 400m up · 400m down

Ice Climbing

2.5hrs · 600m

Clip on your snowshoes and hike out into the Pyhä-Luosto National Park - a snowy wilderness of frozen valleys, ravines and tunturis, the remnants of 2 billion-year-old mountains. Take a break around midday for a campfire lunch and then return to the cabin to warm up. In the afternoon, you’ll try your hand at ice climbing and learn how to use axes and crampons to successfully ascend a frozen waterfall. Back at the cabin, you’ll pack for tomorrow’s adventure before unwinding in a steaming hot sauna. Don’t forget to check outside for the aurora.

Day 3

Ice climb the Korouoma Canyon

Ice Climbing

4-5hrs · 600m

Wake up early and drive to the Korouoma Canyon, one of the top climbing destinations in Lapland, where you’ll face off against the highest ice wall in the country. Spend the day honing your skills on the high quality ice at Charlie Brown and Mammoth until you’re climbing like a natural. In the afternoon you’ll hike across a landscape of frozen creeks and thick evergreen forest searching for animal tracks in the fresh snow. You’ll learn tips on how to build a fire in the arctic and then undertake a truly Finnish experience, as your guide cuts a hole through the lake ice so you can take a ‘refreshing’ dip before heating up in the nearby sauna!

What is the food like?

Finnish food is delicious, blending traditional and modern continental cuisine. Dishes commonly include fish, pork, beef or reindeer, but also involve lots of vegetables and mushrooms. The hotel restaurant also serves American-style food like burgers, chicken, ribs and nachos, as well as Lappish specialities like salmon, reindeer stew and reindeer steak.

Vegetarians, vegans and other dietary requirements and allergies can be catered for - please just request on your passenger info form.

What is the accommodation like?

You'll be staying in a cabin in the woods – the genuine Lapland way! After a day of Arctic adventures, it is blissful to step into the warm ambience of a cabin in the woods, and enjoy roaring fires and a sauna. Your host uses a selection of woodland cabins of different sizes and occasionally your group may be divided between two cabins.

The cabins are equipped with clothes dryers, a shared kitchen with facilities such as a filter coffee maker, electric kettle, microwave oven, 24/7 complimentary WiFi, WCs and a shower. A nutritious buffet breakfast will be available to keep explorers fuelled. There is also a communal lounge area to relax in during the evenings. You will typically stay in twin or triple rooms (with a shared bathroom). Double rooms are available on request.

Should you wish to book additional nights' accommodation in Pyhä before or after the trip, we recommend booking Hotel Pyhätunturi as this is located close to the ski bus stop and within walking distance of the slopes.

Amazing Finnish experience

Great team and experience, thanks to Tina, Thomas and co, snowshoeing through the national park was great and the ice climbing was definitely a unique experience! Loved the Finnish sauna and sauna in the cabin.

Louise D.(March 2024)
Amazing! You have to book it…go on then!!!!

What an amazing location!

Ice Climing was brill…you HAVE to try it, and the great thing is, anyone can! :)

Snowshoeing was good for seeing some of the sights.

Thomas, Tiina and Katarina were great guides, very knowledgeable.

Cabins that we stayed in were of a good standard.

Food that was provided was very good…we got to try reindeer and Moose, but don’t let that put you off, there are alternatives.

Incredible Arctic and Finnish Adventure

The Ice Snow and Saunas experience is incredible, there's a great mix of hiking in the snow, ice climbing, meeting new people, physical activities but also relaxation and being in nature.

The ice climb is great as it is challenging but caters to all level and the team and our guides went above and beyond throughout to make us feel looked after and safe - they did an incredible job.

The class is also a real mix of people so it's great to be in a group where you can meet people and the environment was always really friendly and positive.

Accommodation is an alpine cabin which has it's own Sauna so great to relax in at the end of the day after the activities

The location is also based at Pyhä ski resort so you can partake in other activities outside of the itinerary if you stay for longer like skiing, snowbiking.

Would highly recommend!

Sean A.(March 2024)
Would definitely recommend! A brilliant trip.

Such an amazing time with great people! We were completely looked after from start to finish and the staff were amazing. The ice climbing was a challenge but an incredible experience. We saw lots of nature and felt like we had a very authentic Lapland experience.

Aimee S.(February 2024)
Amazing trip surrounded by beautiful Finnish nature.

A well organised tour in a beautiful country. This trip had a great mix of activities and kept us busy from start to finish. The ice climbing was a challenge but such an amazing experience that I would love to do all over again! The meals provided were brilliant, dietry requirements were catered for well and I loved the experience of having lunch by the fire while surrounded by snow. Thomas was a great guide who ensured that everyone in the group was comfortable, he kept us well informed and shared his knowledge of Finland and the nature/wildlife which we were experiencing. Thankyou also to Juanpi for his knowledge and experience on the day of our ice climb and to Mikael for his organisation and communication before the trip. Ending the trip with the sauna and ice dip was an amazing experience and well needed after a few days of full on activities. I would 100% recommend this trip and would go back and do it all again if I could!

Angelina P.(February 2024)
Must do in Finland

We weren’t lucky enough to see the Northern Lights but had an amazing time anyway. Thomas and Jepi were great guides! The snowshoeing was beautiful. The ice climbing was a blast and felt very safe having the guides belay us. We all did better than we thought we could with their help! The sauna and cold dip were fun way to end the trip.

Cara G.(February 2024)

Honestly so much fun! An adventure we will never forget! Sadly didn’t see any northern lights but the rest of the trip more than made up for it. The ice swim was a definite highlight, as well as the hikes through national parks seeing wild reindeer and conquering the frozen waterfall!! The guides are fantastic - go above and beyond to make sure you’re comfortable! Will take the time

Nadia(February 2024)
Absolutely fantastic

Absolutely stunning scenery. Did not get a chance to see the northern lights but the ice climbing, snow shoeing and hiking were absolutely ace! Big shout out to Inessa, Thomas and the gang behind the scenes for making it such a fantastic trip, the hosting was top notch and they made sure we got as much out of the experience as possible.

Megan S.(February 2024)
Fantastic trip

This trip was incredibly well organised and run. The scenery and activities were fantastic and the guides really made sure everyone was comfortable at all stages. The food was really good and made sure any dietry requirements were catered for. Thank you to Inessa, Thomas and Laura for such a wonderful experience, I will definitely be booking with MBA again!

Saskia K.(February 2024)
Amazing experience in breathtaking scenery

Lapland was stunning, beautiful location, an amazing place to hike and learn to ice climb for the first time! The guides were very knowledgeable and professional, I felt safe throughout the trip. Everything I needed was included, such as all the climbing equipment, big meals every day, and even hot drinks when out and about!

Lucas(February 2024)
🤙

It was a fully packed short break with a good mix of challenge and relaxation, although mostly challenge! But that's what I signed up for.

As someone who is generally fairly fit but have no ice climbing experience, I found it a great introduction to the sport and I managed to get in lots of good climbs. The hiking through the winter scenery was also really nice.

The food and accomodation was very good and better than what I expected. This is a more expensive trip than some others, but you get what you pay for.

Jennifer M.(January 2024)
Would Absolutely Book Again!

I didn’t know what to expect, but this far exceeded any expectation I had! The accommodations were much nicer than expected, our guides were awesome and I loved the diversity of different food options and locations we tried!

I’d absolutely use MBA again!

Only complaint is that there isn’t a ton of communication prior to the adventure of where you’re staying and how to get there. We were able to figure it out but sharing a location, logistics of your “Ticket for the bus” would make it much easier, but absolutely worth booking and all things one could ask before hand (which I totally recommend you do!)

Kirsty C.(January 2024)
Incredible trip. Amazing place, people,

Incredible trip. Amazing place, people, activities alongside awesome guides. Highly recommend this brilliant weekend.

Martin R.(January 2024)
Absolutely fantastic

Such a great trip. The guides were exceptional, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. They looked after us, made sure we were prepared, were patient with us on the activities, taught us about the landscape and made the trip unforgettable. The location is lovely, the views are beautiful and the experience of being this far north and experiencing artic conditions fantastic. The accommodation in Pyha was excellent and the area has so much scope for activities. It’s a short trip but you do so much it feels longer, they are big days and a packed itinerary but great food, friendly guides and a lovely place to stay let you fit so much in.

Jenny C.(January 2024)
Fabulously Freezing Foray into Finland

Every element of this trip was superb - it’s a great mini adventure in fairly extreme conditions (about -20C at one point!) and surrounded by the snow-clad beauty of Lapland winter. It was all coordinated perfectly by the guides, who are the best I have experienced on these sort of trips. They kept the atmosphere relaxed despite a packed schedule, were very personable, knowledgeable, reassuring, with no egos etc etc. Huge thanks to Inessa and Antonin, Jeppé and Tina (apologies if the latter two aren’t spelt correctly!)

Heydon M.(January 2024)
Super quality adventure trip

What a trip! Relaxed but challenging, good humoured but organised.

From start to finish, the trip was smooth, well organised and enjoyable. Accommodation, transfers and kit were all excellent. The guides were incredible- knowledgeable, fun and enthusiastic throughout.

Robert J.(January 2024)
Amazing trip

Absolutely amazing trip, loved every second of it! Schedule was well planned and your kept busy pretty much all the time.

Accommodation was a lovely wood cabin (with sauna) and food was very nice. Plus got sighting of northern lights on first night!

The guides were amazing and made sure we were all taken care of and had fun.

I especially enjoyed the Finnish Sauna with ice pool dip!

I’d recommend this trip to anyone

The most incredible MBA trip

The most incredible MBA trip yet - truly magical in every way.

Karen M.(January 2024)
Superb trip! Beautiful location in

Superb trip! Beautiful location in Finnish Lapland. Our guides Tiina and Tomas were fantastic, they couldn't do anymore for us and they make sure you really do feel in safe hands. Not only do they show you the ropes (quite literally!), but they also provide you with history and education of the area, including local folk tales which really add to the adventure. The trip is non stop. Snow shoeing through the local Pyha-Luosto national park was simply stunning, followed by cooking lunch over a fire pit. Tiina, Tomas & co show teach you the basic of ice climbing ahead of the main event the next day, climbing the waterfall in Korouoma canyon. This day is truly epic, if not for the faint hearted! It really is an experience which is difficult to beat. After a long day, you can relax in a sauna, along with a ice dip if you're brave enough!!! I can't thank our guides enough, and this trip will leave me with long lasting memories. Highly recommended.

Joanna D.(December 2023)
Beautiful winter wonderland

Great adventure in a beautiful winter wonderland. Don't worry about having any experience in the activities as you are given great guidance and instructions. Big shout out to Kai and the team for looking after us so well and being great company on the trip too. Sisu!!

Katya M.(December 2023)
Fantastic winter trip

Fantastic trip! Kai and the team were so well organised and friendly, they looked after us brilliantly. The area is beautiful and the teaching was great for the ice climbing. I hadn't done it before but they got us all started very quickly.

Andrei B.(December 2023)
Amazing experience!

This was a lot of fun. No experience was needed no try ice climbing. I had no climbing (of any sort) experience at all. All the necessary equipment was provided and the guides helped everyone set it up correctly.

We got to see some impressive views while snowshoeing or hiking to the climbing place. These are worth it even if you don't climb.

The guides were very friendly and a great company.

The itinerary is packed so be prepared for waking up early and day-long trips.

Had a great time!

Chen Z.(December 2023)
Perfect trip

A fantastic trip in every way: the landscape, the activities, the organisation, the fellow adventurers, and special thanks to the local tour leaders— they were always willing to go extra miles and made it a memorable Christmas for us. Highly recommended!

Shady E.(December 2023)
Amazing finland lapland

Amazing experiance, loved every moment of and our local guides were amazing as well, my highlight was thr rock cpimbing at the waterfalls and making all the way to the top.

Natasha(April 2023)

This was an amazing trip with beautiful and incredible scenery, activities and experiences. Our guides, Tiina, Sandels and Antonin were outstanding and really made our trip perfect. They had expert knowledge, made us feel safe and went above and beyond to make the trip special. Looking forward to booking another trip with MBA :)

Nisha(March 2023)

I’ve done quite a few MBA trips and this by far is my favourite one to date. It’s one action packed weekend, from snowshoeing to climbing up ice walls, finishing off with a sauna and frozen lake dip. It felt like I was away for much longer. The scenery is just magical, it’s just you and the snowy landscape in the middle of the mountains. It’s such a unique experience and I stepped completely out of my comfort zone but I’d recommend it to everyone I know!

The ice climbing is tough but the guides are very patient and talk you through it step by step, I didn’t feel any pressure to hurry or feel unsafe. The hike up to the frozen waterfall is a little steep but manageable, I was slow hiking up but I had someone with me the whole time.

The cold temperatures are nothing to worry about either, the guides make sure that everyone is warm and they provide an extra down jacket whilst you’re waiting to climb, the hot tea provided also helps too! It’s certainly a trip you’ll always remember, just book it!

Amy(March 2023)

I couldn't recommend this trip highly enough. Thank you Tiina, Sandals and Antona for making it unforgettable!

Laura(February 2023)

Fabulous trip packed full with activities, although we never at any point felt rushed or that we wouldn't get enough time to do anything. The Bliss team hosting us were fantastic, super friendly and full of information, including providing us with additional activities we could do on the last day before our flights home. The small kit list is very real - the team really do provide you with everything you need and more!

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 69kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.

To enjoy the snowshoeing and ice climbing a basic level of fitness is needed, however no previous experience is required.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Winter in northern Finland is very cold, so be prepared for a truly arctic experience! In January and February temperatures range from -18°C to -8°C. In March and April it warms up a bit, ranging from -13°C to 3°C, with snowy days around half the time. Days are very short, but that just increases your chances of seeing the Northern Lights!

Ice climbing is the sport of climbing up ice walls with the aid of equipment like ice axes and crampons. Like rock climbing, you have a harness, rope and belayer to prevent you from falling. Unlike rock climbing, however, you can use your tools to carve hand and footholds wherever you need them. Also, ice climbing is not as arm-intensive at it looks. Your guides will show you how to do most of the climbing with your legs. The climbs you'll be tackling are graded as 'Water Ice' grades WI2 to WI4.

The climbing will keep you warm on the wall, and while you’re down at the base your guides will provide you with puffy down jackets and hot drinks to keep warm.

Your hosts are true winter adventure pros. They have been guides and leaders on trips around the world, and have gone on expeditions to Antarctica and Nepal. Their guides all have a minimum of Rope Activity Instructor certification, and many are also certified Ice Climbing Instructors.

Round-trip airport transfers on the SkiBus are included in your costs, or you can upgrade to a private transfer for an additional £54.

The Skibus travels between the airport and Pyhä several times a day. Check the updated timetable. Catch the 18:05 bus at the latest. Travel time: 2 hours.

To find the bus, exit the airport through the main doors; the bus stop is 30m away. The bus driver will already have your reservation. Show your passport and you’re good to go. The 5th and final stop is right in front of your hotel.

Any excess luggage you bring with you can be safely left in your accommodation while you are out adventuring.
