What to Expect

Friday: Arrival

Your host will meet you at Helsinki Airport at any time and drive you to your centrally located hotel in the Katajanokka district.

Check in, unwind, then spend the evening exploring Finland’s vibrant capital and discover the city’s delicious Nordic cuisine.

Saturday: Bike ride and archipelago cruise

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel. Your guide will meet you in hotel reception, then you’ll hop on a hybrid bike to start the day’s adventure.

It doesn’t take long to get out of the city. You’ll first ride along the seashore, then move inland to experience the beautiful countryside. You’ll ride mostly on bike trails and along the Old Road to Porvoo which sees little traffic.

You’ll pass through open fields dotted with wildflowers, forests of pine and birch, and small towns that feel remote from everything.

In Porvoo you’ll have lunch at a local restaurant then take some time to explore the town while absorbing the local knowledge of your guide.

Porvoo is a charming riverside town with plenty to see. You’re sure to find endless photo-ops among town’s cobblestone streets, colourful painted houses, and scenic waterfront.

In the late afternoon you’ll board a boat for an evening cruise through the gulf’s archipelago back to Helsinki. The gulf is full of small islands, some rocky, others forested, and all picturesque. Drinks are available for purchase on board.

Back in Helsinki you have the evening to yourself. Relax in the hotel’s seaside sauna and hot tub, or immerse yourself in the city’s nightlife.

Breakfast and lunch included

Sunday: Fatbike ride and departure

Relax over breakfast, then pack up and check out of your hotel. Your host will drive you to Vuosaari in Eastern Helsinki. Vuosaari is known for its easy access to nature parks, trails and unspoilt seashore.

Select your fatbike and head out on a guided ride through the “Riviera of Helsinki”.

You’ll ride winding singletrack through the leafy forests of Uutela Park, cruise along the waterfront, and stop at viewpoints for vistas of the Baltic Sea. The tyres of your fatbike will handle it all with ease, so all you have to think about is having fun.

Return to Vuosaari for lunch on a waterfront terrace, then drive to the airport to catch your flight home.

Breakfast and lunch included

Note: This itinerary and the duration of the activities are subject to change due to group abilities and preferences, weather conditions and forecasts, special events, etc.

In Helsinki you’ll stay at the Scandic Grand Marina. The hotel is centrally located in the Katajanokka district within easy walking distance of such sights as the SkyWheel, Allas Sea Pool, Uspenski Cathedral and Market Square.

Helsinki is a cosmopolitan, international city that somehow maintains a small-town feel. With an urban population of 630,000 and a metropolitan population of 1.3 million, it’s the largest city in Finland.

Helsinki frequently makes the list of Top 10 Most Livable Cities in the World. Part of that is due to its gorgeous seaside location on the Gulf of Finland. It’s also a very walkable town, so you can easily explore the sights when you arrive.

Sights include a wealth of churches, parks and eclectic museums, endless outdoor bars and cafes, plenty of saunas if you want to relax, and the must-see Baltic Sea fortress of Suomenlinna.

Outside of the city centre there are a lot of natural areas. Parks, trails, sea views and peaceful forests abound, and you’ll get to see them all by bike.

Start point?
You will be met Friday at the Helsinki airport. Your host can pick you up at any time, but the earlier the better so you can enjoy a full day in Helsinki. Your host will be in touch before the trip to finalise details.

Finish point?
Your tour will end at the Helsinki airport on Sunday. Schedule your flight home to depart at 17:00 or later. Your host will be in touch before the trip to finalise details.

Getting there and away?
Helsinki-Vantaa Airport (HEL) is served by regular, inexpensive flights, including direct flights from London on British Airways, Finnair and Norwegian Air Shuttle. We will contact you before you leave to check your arrival and departure plans.

For extra financial protection against unforeseen circumstances such as erupting Icelandic volcanoes, we recommend you book your flights using a credit card.

Sure can! A lot of people do, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our Epic Weekends are very social in nature and we’ve seen lots of new friendships born out of them. Expect a group no bigger than 8, consisting of a mix of solo travellers and very small groups of 2 or 3, all with a shared appreciation of escaping the city for the great outdoors to try something new and meet new people.

Finnish cuisine blends traditional and modern continental foods for delicious and varied dining opportunities. Dishes commonly include fish, pork, beef or reindeer, but also involve lots of vegetables and mushrooms. Typical meals include cabbage rolls, hearty stews, meatballs, a fish prepared in a number of ways.

Absolutely! Just let us know at booking.

A good level of fitness needed to enjoy this trip. The first bike ride is 50km, but your guide will adapt to your pace and you can take all the breaks you need. The fatbike ride is easy and fun, and the bikes are easy to handle.

Summers in Finland are warm and sunny. From June to August daytime temperatures range from 15-25 °C while nights are considerably cooler. Summer nights are very short and scarcely get dark at all.
