Your host will pick you up at the airport and transfer you to your Agriturismo 4 km from Alghero airport.

Check in, unwind, and spend the afternoon exploring at your own pace. You can sunbathe by the pool or take a self-guided hike to Monte Doglia.

Stop at isolated, quiet beaches for lunch and swimming. The beaches of Cala di la Donne and Abra Massa are particularly good for snorkeling.

Accommodation

You’ll stay at Agriturismo Agave*, a holiday farm located 4 km outside Alghero, which is still operated as a small family business. The Agriturismo features ensuite rooms, AC, wifi, a large veranda, a pool and sun terrace, and a wine cellar stocked with local wines. The kitchen creates amazing meals from ingredients produced on the farm. For winter trips we will be using accommodation at Agriturismo Barbagia with similar facilities.

*Please note, availability at Agriturismo Agave can be limited during the high season (or with last minute bookings) and we need to confirm availability of rooms before we can accept bookings. It is possible that you may be accommodated close by and still have full use of the Agriturismo facilities including the swimming pool and having your dinners there with the group or we may place the group at an alternative close by but with very similar accommodation.

Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean and a popular destination for visitors to Italy. The island consists of high, rocky coasts, impressive headlands, and an interior of rolling hills.

Alghero is a small city (pop. 44,000) in the northwest. The strong Catalan culture is reflected in the language and food. There’s plenty to explore, including archaeological sites, churches and cathedrals, ancient fortifications, and many beaches, bays and parks.

The sea kayaking will take place in the Porto Conte Regional Park. The park protects 60km of coastline showcasing an array of unique landscapes. More than 60 plant communities have been identified in the park, along with a wealth of bird species. You might get lucky and see Griffon Vultures circling overhead.

Start point?
Your host will pick you up from Alghero Airport on Thursday at 12:45. Alternatively, your host suggests flying in via Olbia (OLB) or Cagliari (CAG) and then continue via public transport or rental car (ca. 2h). Your host will be in touch before the trip to finalise details.

Suggested flights:

Alghero (AHO):
March 29 - Sept 30: Arrival on Thursday at 12:45
January 01 - March 28: Arrival on Saturday at 18:30

Finish point?
You’ll be dropped off at Alghero Airport on Sunday for your flight home. Please schedule your flight to depart no earlier than 10:40 from Alghero (March 29 - September 30). If you book a trip earlier in the season, you can book any flight departing after 13:15 on Tuesday.

Getting there and away?
We recommend looking for flights individually (instead of looking for return flights) to find more flight options.

If the suggested aren’t available anymore you host suggests taking the 4,5-hour flight via Milan.
Alghero Airport (AHO) is served by regular, inexpensive flights, including direct flights from London on Ryanair and Easyjet. You may choose any flights that suit you, but make sure they fit the times above to take advantage of the included transfers.

Your host will contact you before you leave to check your arrival and departure plans.

For extra financial protection against unforeseen circumstances such as erupting Icelandic volcanoes, we recommend you book your flights using a credit card.

Our Epic Weekends are very social in nature and we’ve seen lots of new friendships born out of them. Expect a mix of solo travelers and very small groups, all with a shared appreciation of escaping the city for the great outdoors to try something new and meet new people.

This trip is suitable for beginner or intermediate sea kayakers. No previous experience is needed, but you do need a good level of fitness to fully enjoy the active days.

Typical food items include focaccia pizza, fresh salad, fresh bread, gnocchi, ravioli, wild boar, suckling pig, seasonal vegetables, sheep’s milk cheese and dessert. Local wine is included with dinner.

While sea kayaking you’ll have packed picnic lunches with fruit, a sandwich, snacks and a drink.
