Sure you can! A lot of people do, and it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Our Epic Weekends are very social in nature and we’ve seen lots of new friendships born out of them. Expect a mix of solo travelers and very small groups, all with a shared appreciation of escaping the city for the great outdoors to try something new and meet new people.

This trip is suitable for beginner or intermediate sea kayakers. No previous experience is needed, but you do need a good level of fitness to fully enjoy the active days.

Your Agriturismo* produces its own vegetables, olives and fruits, and raises a wide variety of livestock. These ingredients make it onto the dinner table for fresh, delicious Sardinian meals.

Typical food items include focaccia pizza, fresh salad, fresh bread, gnocchi, ravioli, wild boar, suckling pig, seasonal vegetables, sheep’s milk cheese and dessert. Local wine is included with dinner.

While sea kayaking you’ll have packed picnic lunches with fruit, a sandwich, snacks and a drink.

Please note lunch is not provided on arrival day - the first included meal is dinner.

Absolutely, but please make sure you let us know during booking not on arrival.

Location

View map

Sardinia is the second largest island in the Mediterranean and a popular destination for visitors to Italy. The island consists of high, rocky coasts, impressive headlands, and an interior of rolling hills.

Alghero is a small city (pop. 44,000) in the northwest. The strong Catalan culture is reflected in the language and food. There’s plenty to explore, including archaeological sites, churches and cathedrals, ancient fortifications, and many beaches, bays and parks.

The sea kayaking will take place in the Porto Conte Regional Park. The park protects 60 km of coastline showcasing an array of unique landscapes. More than 60 plant communities have been identified in the park, along with a wealth of bird species. You might get lucky and see griffon vultures circling overhead.

Start point

Alghero Airport

Your adventure begins at Alghero Airport (AHO) on Day 1 with your transfer. Book any flight which works for your travel plans. Your driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals area - details will be sent to you closer to your arrival date. Alternatively, you can easily get to Agriturismo Agave from the airport via a 15 minute taxi. You will meet your fellow adventurers at Agriturismo Agave at 20:00 on Day 1 if not at the airport transfer.

We recommend looking at individual one-way flights to/from Alghero Airport e.g. Ryanair from Stansted to Alghero and Easyjet from Alghero to Luton for UK based customers.

If you’re not able to fly into Alghero Airport on Thursday, you could book an extra night arriving on the Wednesday and enjoy some sightseeing in Alghero. Your host will be able to either book you an extra night at your accommodation for the trip or advise on where to stay.

Finish point

Alghero Airport

At the end of your adventure, you will be dropped back at Alghero Airport.

Easyjet, Ryanair and Alitalia all do direct flights. It is often easier to search for two single flights rather than a return. Book any flight which suits your travel plans.

Accommodation

You’ll be staying in twin rooms at Agriturismo Agave*, a holiday farm located 4 km outside Alghero, which is still operated as a small family business. The Agriturismo features ensuite rooms, AC, wifi, a large veranda, a pool and sun terrace, and a wine cellar stocked with local wines. The kitchen creates amazing meals from ingredients produced on the farm. For winter trips we will be using accommodation at Agriturismo Barbagia or other similar accommodation with similar facilities.

For solo travellers looking for their own space, an optional private room can be booked for €10 per person, per night (subject to availability). Please request this at the time of booking.

*Please note, availability at Agriturismo Agave can be limited during the high season (or with last minute bookings) and we need to confirm availability of rooms with each booking. It is possible that you may be accommodated close by and still have full use of the Agriturismo facilities including the swimming pool and having your dinners there with the group or we may place the group at alternative accommodation close by but with very similar facilities.
