Relax near the laid-back fishing village of Taghazout on Morocco’s west coast – a legendary spot for European surfers

Learn all the techniques needed to paddle, pop up, ride, turn and read the beach for impending waves, rips and currents

Surf in the morning, catch waves all afternoon and then watch the sun sink into the ocean

Looking for a longer trip? See our Moroccan Surf Adventure for more time on the water

Day 1

Head for the coast

Meet your host in the city of Agadir and drive to your base, a traditional Moroccan riad. You'll stay in the village of Tamraght, which is in Taghazout Bay, on the gorgeous west coast. Settle in, grab some dinner and hang out in the courtyard of your tranquil oasis.

Day 2 and 3

Learn to surf

Photo: Charlie McCulloch

Surfing

4-6hrs

Learn how to surf or polish your technique alongside professional instructors and then practice all morning in sparkling blue water backed by vivid red hills. Fuelled by groundswells in the north Atlantic these waves travel thousands of miles to produce the conditions that Taghazout and the surrounding area is famous for – from sandy-bottomed beginners’ waves, to long, glassy point breaks.

After a picnic lunch on the beach (and maybe a nap in the shade) paddle back out for some more surf. Then as the sun gets lower in the sky head back to your riad to shower off the salt. Stretch out your muscles with an optional sunset yoga session, and then have dinner either at your riad or at one of the many excellent restaurants in town.

Day 4

Last chance for waves

Linger over breakfast, enjoy that awesome view one last time and then head back to the beach. Spend the day carving some glassy waves and admiring the postcard-perfect Moroccan landscape, before catching your flight home.

Amazing Surf Holiday

We had an amazing holiday learning to surf in Morocco. We were total beginners, but learnt so much over the course of a few days and have definitely caught the surfing bug.

The riad we stayed at was lovely, with a lot of communal space for socialising. Everyone at mint surf - the guests, the hosts and all the staff - were so friendly and it was really sad saying goodbye after our weekend away.

We took yoga sessions each morning, which really helped stretch out the muscles before a day of surfing. Longer evening yoga sessions were also available.

All the food we had at the riad was amazing. Eating as a group was a great way to meet other people on the trip, and was one of my favourite aspects of the holiday. We also went out for a group meal one night in Tagazhout.

Jake E.(March 2024)
We had an amazing trip,

We had an amazing trip, the surfing was incredible, the equipment was ready for us each morning and Imad was a great instructor. The riad was clean and comfortable with a lovely breakfast each morning.

Daniel P.(February 2024)
What a trip! We were

What a trip! We were really looked after by Courtney who organized taxi's and meals out for us. Plus the food and accommodation was really good. The surf was un and we had a great coach in Emre who found the best surf for us each day. Highly recommend

Rosie P.(February 2024)
Fantasic trip!

What a great little adventure! Couldn't fault a thing. Big thanks to Courtney for hosting and making us feel so welcome. Highly recommend the yoga, both sunrise and sunset - such a great way to stretch out the muscles, pre and post surf. Accommodation was lovely, great views from the roof top and lots of places to chill in the evening. The food was delicious and plentiful. And I can't forget to mention all the adorable dogs and cats that roamed about the riad! The surf lessons were brilliant, so much fun - big thanks to our instructor Emre! We were luckily enough to have a beach all to ourselves, the sea was warm and clear and weather was a perfect temperature, lots of warm sunshine. I also recommend paying a visit to the local souk, such lovely handmade items and souvenirs. Anyone thinking of doing this trip, I highly recommend it! Will definitely be returning!

Katherine S.(February 2024)
Fantastic trip for beginners and experts

This was a great four days. Food was brilliant, fantastic venue and top class surfing instruction. Definitely coming back.

Elise S.(February 2024)
Fun way to learn to surf!

This was such a great trip! The 3 days of surfing was perfect for beginners - we learned a lot and even managed to stand up a couple of times :) The community feel of the riad, the delicious food, and the beautiful sunsets were perfect. Highly recommend trying this out!

Kirsty(November 2023)

Thank you so much for the amazing memories! Everything was perfect! As a solo traveller, I couldn’t have asked for a better time! Amazing host, food and company! I’ll be back!!

Michael(November 2023)

Highly recommend this trip. Excellent and fun instruction and hosting. Food including lunches was excellent and accommodation had all you need. Scenery and surf was second to none and everyone progressed and really enjoyed themselves.

Tony(October 2023)

The trip was brilliant from start to finish. Courtney made is feel welcome from the outset a d nothing was too much hassle. The surfing instructors made it fun, relaxed and the best experience I could have imagined. Highly recommended the trip.

Sarah(October 2023)

This was a fantastic trip. I found the surfing very difficult but the instructors were excellent, patient and very friendly. It was a lot of fun to learn! The yoga was great and the food provided by the riad was very tasty. Morocco was a friendly country and somewhere that I'd like to explore more in future.

Adil(June 2023)

The trip was amazing. The host, the instructor, the instructor's assistant, the hotel/accommodation staff - all absolutely awesome people and welcome with open hearts. The surf spots were suitably chosen based on the wave and our ability, the kit was good, the lunches and the breakfast were great.

L(May 2023)

Really recommend this trip if you’re looking to learn how to surf. Great location and the instructors also gave advice about surfing back home, what boards to rent, wetsuit hire… Courtney and her team were awesome, super friendly and helpful. The instructors even brought a camera to the beach so we could all get pictures of us surfing. The accommodation is a short walk away from the beach and had a bunch of shops and restaurants near it so you can do your own thing if you want to in the evenings. If you’re thinking about booking this adventure then go for it!

Clare(May 2023)

Brilliant trip. The hosts were amazing! Defo would rebook!

Jemma(May 2023)

This trip was everything I hoped for and more!! An amazing experience and all the hosts were just lovely.

Felicity(April 2023)

Absolutely wonderful welcoming, encouraging and friendly hosts and surf/yoga instructors. Great equipment, food, accommodation and incredible value for money overall. If in doubt about booking this trip, just book it. Great group of people who all managed to stand up early on and throughout the weekend. Great opportunity to go out into the local area as much or as little as you wanted too. Courtney took extra care of me ensuring I had food suitable for my awkward food intolerances, translating in the local restaurants for me where necessary. Thank you so much Mint Surf. Would not hesitate to come back again!!!

Hannah(April 2023)

Had such a fab time! The host was fantastic and all the staff were super helpful and friendly! Place has a really nice atmosphere and all the guests eat breakfast together and also have the opportunity to have dinner together aswell wether that be at the riad or at a local restaurant!

April(April 2023)

Love everything about our trip except for the room. The shower would get water everywhere but I think that's all over Morocco? Just no shower curtain and only a small floor towel that would get soaked during showers. The shower was also like standing in a sink where it doesn't drain as fast.

But everything else was amazing! Our host Cortney was amazing! Easy to get ahold of and ask questions. She would set up dinner and or transport or massages per request! I got a massage after the first day of surfing and it was glorious! It was lomi lomi and I loved everything about it and Salome is a wonderful spirit! Thank you so much!

The surfing was so much fun! Great instructors and they really kept an eye on you! (Hugh, Medi, Hatem, Alex - thank you all!) Specifically when the current was pushing you one direction away from everyone, they would whistle or try to get you back towards the group. I felt very safe and in good good hands! We all got a lot of sun and the instructors really tried to get you to cover up w as much sunscreen as possible whenever we were out of the water. Our group of travelers was also amazing! Good people and we had a lot of fun in between surfing and dinners. Thank you Denny and Fatima for driving us and breakfasts and everything else! You guys are so wonderful 😊🥰 and made our stay so smooth and wonderful. Thank you for your hard work!!

Great vacation! We loved our night out to Taghazout for sunset dinner and drinks. Was so much fun. Thank you so much for all the fun times! I will definitely tell people about Much Better Adventures!

Annie(March 2023)

Courtney and the team at mint surf were brilliant! Surf instructors were really good and got us standing on day one. Very easy-going atmosphere, there’s the opportunity to surf as much or as little as you like. And the food was amazing! I’d 100% recommend this trip to anyone.

Sam(March 2023)

Great trip

Michelle(March 2023)

Really enjoyed this experience :) The instructors were excellent and the beach was amazing for learning how to surf :)

Ben(March 2023)

The local host Courtney is brilliant and goes above and beyond to look after you. The food and accommodation was brilliant and plenty of it you won't ever be hungry. Being social was encouraged so making friends was easy, it had a real family feel by the end. Couldn't recommend this trip enough

Thomas(February 2023)

The trip was great and we had an amazing time. The hosts made sure we had a very pleasant time and everything was well organized! Our guides did a great effort to teach us how to surf and went above and beyond to make sure we had a fun time both while surfing and after by taking us to the best spots in the area.

Joe(February 2023)

Entire experience was amazing.

Jonny(January 2023)

An incredible trip! Great for couples, solo travellers and friends alike. Courtney and the team at Mint Surf were amazing hosts, well organised and really generous. Our surf instructor Blake was awesome, with an infectious & palpable passion for surfing!

Really good value for money, and not many expenses when we got out to Morocco too.

A great place for surfing, with great waves for beginners, and also for more advanced surfers too.

Would 110% go again!

Hannah(January 2023)

A brilliant trip with a super friendly host and team, everyone makes sure you can get the best out of the experience regardless of previous experience surfing. Photos don't do the accommodation justice, it's a really lovely place with a great atmosphere. Everything provided to learn to surf but options to bring your own wetsuit and board if you'd like as well. Could not recommend Courtney and her crew enough if you want to learn something new!

Hannah(January 2023)

I had the most awesome time on this trip, I cannot recommend this highly enough, winter sun and surf with an amazing bunch of like minded chilled out folk. Courtney and co at the Riad couldn’t have done more to make the stay more welcoming. The surf was epic and Taghazout has totally blown my expectations out of the water! I had a swell time!

Alberto(December 2022)

I loved every single second spent in Morocoo

Chris(December 2022)

Amazing experience provided by fantastic hosts. You won't find better value for money on MBA.

John(December 2022)

If you've ever fancied surfing then get on this trip, the Moroccan waves are a treat, and the school is ready to get you standing on the waves, and even if you don't, the experience alone is just amazing. The food, the vibe, the weather, the group, everything comes together to give you a lifetime of memories. This trip is so much fun! Highly recommend you give this a go!

Bradley(November 2022)

MBA surf trip to Morocco was absolutely incredible. The instructors were super helpful and were there to help everyone get to the point of standing as soon as possible! The location was just as amazing and the hosts were delightful to be around, joining us for breakfasts and meals out too which was lovely. I met some amazing people on my trip with many of us wanting to come back and do it all again. The only downfall? I wish I'd booked an evening flight to get an extra mornings worth of surfing in before I left!

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 144kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.

This trip is most suitable for beginner surfers who want to learn some basic surf skills and work on their technique. Your instructor will adjust every lesson to suit your skill level. The only requirement is that you can swim and tread water.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Tap water is OK for washing and brushing teeth, but it is not recommended for drinking. Bottled mineral water is cheap and available everywhere. Alternatively you can bring a water purifier and help keep plastic out of the ocean.

There is a huge variety of surf in this area of Morocco all year round - from mellow beginner waves, to challenging reef ledges. Due to the varied nature of the coastline there is almost always somewhere sheltered and manageable, but those looking for a challenge won’t be disappointed either.

Each morning will start with a surf lesson where you’ll learn the proper stance, how to paddle, turn, pop up and keep your speed, as well as surf etiquette, safety and how to read the beach (waves, rips and currents.) After that you’re free to enjoy the waves and practise at your leisure for the rest of the day and your hosts will monitor from the beach.

Taghazout Bay is primarily a surfing destination, however, there are still plenty of other things to do. You can hike in Paradise Valley, experience a hammam, practice your yoga, or shop in the souks to name just a few.

With more than 300 days of sunshine, Morocco is a year-round destination and you’re unlikely to encounter rain. The summer months see warm temperatures (air 20 – 30 °C; sea 18 – 21 °C) and small to medium swells. Winter months have cooler but very pleasant temperatures (air 18 – 26 °C; sea 16 – 20 °C) and the biggest waves.

We recommend checking out the country specific information here and also talking to a travel nurse.

For current advice about travelling in Morocco, have a read of the UK Foreign Office pages here.

You may read reports about a sewage problem in Taghazout online. Recent works in the area have seen the installation of a sewage system for the town, which is fully operational now. This means that surf camps in the area are all reporting a significant drop in stomach illness coming out of COVID. However, we still suggest to follow some basic hygiene rules and remain very careful of sunstroke, because that can equally cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea:

Wash your hands with soap thoroughly before every meal, stay away from random street food or other restaurants without recommendation if you don't know the hygienic conditions, and wear sun protection.

Ramadan will take place from 10th March to 8th April 2024. The national holiday of Eid ul-Fitr will follow for 2-3 days. Ramadan is an Islamic festival where the religious do not eat or drink during daylight hours. While this is a really interesting time to travel, especially to witness celebrations where the fast is broken in the evenings, you can expect some business hours will be shortened, alcohol is not permitted during daylight hours and some restaurants will be closed during this festival period. Activities for local people tend to be limited during the day and the nights are very active in cities with lots of different foods being sold and consumed. Ramadan will not affect the inclusions on your trip although you should be aware that if you'd like to drink alcohol, your host recommends that you bring duty free with you.

There will be one instructor to every eight surfers on your trip.
