Relax near the laid-back fishing village of Taghazout on Morocco’s west coast – a legendary spot for European surfers

Learn the techniques you need to ride the waves: how to paddle, pop up, turn and read the beach for impending waves, rips and currents

Got a thirst for picking up new skills? Check out our Climb, Surf and Yoga adventure to combine learning to surf with getting to grips with rock climbing

Day 1

First day, first waves

Meet your host in Agadir and get whisked away to your traditional Moroccan Riad in Tamraght in Taghazout Bay; a legendary surf hot spot. Settle in and meet your crew for sundowners and dinner.

Days 2-5

Surf, eat, sleep, repeat

Photo: Charlie McCulloch

Surfing

4-6hrs

Take breakfast in the tranquil courtyard each morning and then head out to another legendary local surf spot. Your host will drive you to the best beach for the day’s conditions so you always have prime waves to catch.

Each day will be spent surfing all morning in sparkling blue water backed by vivid red hills. Fuelled by groundswells in the north Atlantic, these waves travel thousands of miles to produce the conditions Taghazout is famous for – from sandy-bottomed beginners’ waves, to long, glassy point breaks. After a picnic lunch on the beach (and maybe a nap in the shade) you can paddle back out for more practice. Then, as the sun gets lower in the sky head, back to your riad to shower off the salt. Stretch out your muscles with an optional sunset yoga session, then explore the town and have dinner in one of Taghazout’s many excellent restaurants.

Day 6

Last day in surfing paradise

Photo Charlie McCulloch

Surfing

4-6hrs

Linger over another delicious breakfast, hone your skills with a final morning lesson and then spend the afternoon carving some glassy waves as you admire the postcard-perfect Moroccan landscape.

Then, after catching a last ride back into the beach it’s time to clean up and catch your flight home.

February Sun & Surf

Had a fantastic time! From start to finish everything was taken care of by Courtney and the gang which left me free to soak up the sun, surf and endless beaches. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Elspeth J.(February 2024)
A trip full of laughter and making new friends

I booked this trip as a treat using the inheritance after my father passed away. It was bittersweet spending the money, but I couldn't have hoped for a better trip. Communication from the host was great, the surf instructors were attentive and patient. Accommodation was amazing with various areas to go and chill alone or as a group for a louder atmosphere. Food was amazing and the rooms clean. I loved every minute of it and am so sad to be back already! I am now able to stand on a surf board and the learning process was so fun. I will definitely book a holiday with MBA again.

Gizelle T.(February 2024)
Perfection

Nothing but amazing perfection. The people, the surf, the food and the host. Loved it xx

Giovanna C.(December 2023)
Lovely adventure

Amazing trip and lots of fun. It was my first time on a surf camp, I joined solo and there was 4 of us. We had amazing time on the waves, the guide instructors are knowledgeable and fun, the Riad and Courtney are very welcoming.

Erica(October 2023)

Book this tour! You will not regret it! The riad you stay in is amazing, Courtney the host is friendly and helpful, Imad the surf instructor is funny, patient and has over 30 years of experience. The beaches are stunning, the food is excellent, and the atmosphere is relaxed and happy. The people I met were a delight. Honestly, could not be happier.

Lauren(May 2023)

Really fun trip overall!

Sunny(May 2023)

Awesome trip with great friendly hosts, great food, great accommodation overall a fabulous experience.

Dan(April 2023)

A great trip. Cracking bunch of people, great weather, good food and accom and good value for money

Ellen(March 2023)

Met a great bunch of solo travellers, enjoyed authentic riad with roof terrace and top surf instructor who went the extra mile to provide memorable evenings for those who wanted to venture out.

Michael(March 2023)

My first adventure through MBA and it was a fantastic experience. Courtney (the local host) was always helpful, particularly with catering to my specific dietary requirements.

Apart from one day, the weather was superb and the surfing instructors were very helpful (I travelled at the end of Feb).

The group were fantastic and I miss them already. Hoping to keep in touch with a few of them.

The accommodation was great with communal areas to socialise with others, but it was a little bit out of the way of the bars and restaurants in Taghazout, so a taxi was needed for evening meals out.

I will definitely be visiting again.

Ben(March 2023)

Awesome spot , awesome experience

Aly(February 2023)

Awesome trip!

Alex(January 2023)

Loved the group - lots of fellow solo travellers so we ended up hanging out a lot together. Really helpful surf instructors too. I recommend you do a day or two in Marrakech beforehand if you want to see the markets, and then take a coach to Agadir (very scenic route)

Ali(January 2023)

From booking to returning back home, everything was well organised. The hosts were fabulous and lovely fishing village to stay in. Surf instructors were capable and friendly. I was most impressed with the variation of people in the group and the group dynamics was fantastic. The trip also had a lot of flexibility within it i.e. if you did not want to surf you could do your own thing, if you wanted to eat somewhere else you could, if you were vegetarian it was always catered for well.

Rameez(January 2023)

Amazing experience. On top of the Moroccan environment, the group dynamic, hospitality of the host/instructors and the food was great. Top notch experience I would recommend again. I know I will be back

Helena(January 2023)

What a great way to spend Christmas! Learning to surf in Morrocco was so much fun and with such a lovely group of people! We visited lots of beaches and relaxed in between the surfing, with the freedom to do our own thing or stay with the group 🙂

Tanis A.(December 2022)

This trip positively exceeded my expectations! The core of the trip was obviously around surfing, which was great in the spots chosen, the instructors, etc. But the trip was amazing in many other ways too. The guys taking care of the group (Blake, Micky, Jemaine) were not just helpful and knowledgeable, but also fun and sweet, and indeed it felt that they were part of the group itself. Food (which was mostly at the riad) was incredible, and the places around also provided super yummy alternatives. We also did a few off-plan activities all together that were wonderful, like going to Agadir's zouk, as well as watching Morocco's matches on the World Cup. Probably one of the best short holidays of my life, totally recommend

Ben(December 2022)

Very friendly hosts and nice accommodation that is a short drive from taghazout. Enjoyed visiting a new beach each day and the different restaurants that they took us to for our dinners. Would have liked a bit more feedback during the lessons which were quite informal. Overall a good value trip and a great new experience

Jon(November 2022)

Awesome experience. Surfing was hard work, but everyone on the trip was challenged by it, then succeeded. The group, both through MBA and other people staying at the accommodation, were great; our hosts were awesome and overall it was simply a great trip. Morocco itself was also an unexpected joy - really friendly people, helpful and felt really safe all of the time. Mint Surf were having a few teething problems whilst we were there, but they were ticking these off every day, and the pace of life and laidback attitude meant that it never bothered me.

Susan(November 2022)

My first solo trip and it was so great. I was unsure about whether we'd all go out for dinner together but the local hosts took it in turns to take us out to restaurants with good food, depending on what we fancied. It really made the trip worthwhile cos there's nothing worse than feeling like a spare part and having to go out alone. Especially in Morocco where it's not always great wandering the streets alone as a single woman. Everyone on the trip was great - hosts and guests. All of the equipment was provided and was perfect working order. The surf instructors couldn't have worked harder or been more attentive and Courteney would book us in for massages and book taxis. I literally didn't have to make a decision all week other than what to eat for dinner and I loved it because usually it's down to me to plan everything on a holiday. Surfing was tiring but fun - I'm really looking forward to seeing the proper photos that Micky took of all of us. It was great to go to a different beach every day - my favourite was Plage d'Imsouane where Meehdi took us to see the fish market and bought some sardines which Haitam then cooked over a BBQ for everyone to eat. It was such a great day and the surfing felt easier. I'm definitely going to go back. It was such a great atmosphere, really fun meeting new people and learning how to surf. Taghazout is a really nice place and the weather was glorious.

Jonathan(November 2022)

Great Introduction to Surfing in an amazing setting. Staff & accommodation were great, and really enhanced the experience. I would love to return one day!

Emma(September 2022)

I cannot recommend this trip enough. Courtney was a fantastic host, always on hand to help you, give recommendations and show you the area. The surf instructors were also amazing. So knowledgeable of the beaches and waves that you felt completely safe in the water at all times. They gave you great feedback and lots of encouragement so you continually saw progress in your surfing. Before the trip I'd only had one or two lessons so still very much a beginner and by the end I was standing up consistently, with stability and learning how to turn, speed up and slow down. Our group was mixed ability with some experienced surfers and they made sure to cater to everyone and take us to locations where both beginners could learn safely and experienced surfers could catch some great waves. I've got the bug for surfing now and will definitely go back to Taghazout

Eleni(September 2022)

The trip was a great experience in general. I would recommend it to someone who wants to try surfing in Morocco. Lunch and drinks provided were enough to keep us active and the breakfast a good size portion. I had a small accident on the beach that our guide drove us back and I went to a clinic a couple of hours later after being dropped at home. Luckily all good just a few bruises around my eyes. The team was really supportive. A lot to remember and something I might try again in the future. Thank you all!

Clayton(May 2022)

Great trip, met many amazing people. Courtney is a fantastic host, always making sure we had everything we needed and taking the time to show us around the village and share a little more about the community and culture. She has a fantastic team in the surf coaches like Kareem and local holistic masseuse Jasmine, that just rounds out the whole experience. Happily recommend

Zhi(May 2022)

Amazing host, really went out of her way. Everything well organised. Morocco is a cheap place to eat out. Would advise visiting in spring or autumn for better waves for beginners and bring a zinc stick or some form of sun screen that won't wash into your eyes.

Dimitrios(May 2022)

The holiday was very well organised. We were able to surf multiple spots and had an amazing time altogether.

Harriet(April 2022)

Absolutely fantastic trip - learning to surf was so fun and the accommodation and surf teachers were fantastic. I'd recommend this trip for anyone wanting to try some surfing!

Samuel(April 2022)

Amazing trip with lots of surfing opportunities at different beaches in the local area. Courtney and the team were very knowledgeable and helpful, ensuring everything ran smoothly, maximising everyone's enjoyment. Great food, company and surf!

Mark(March 2022)

Superb experience, the host was great and the instructor was very patient.

Ashley(October 2021)

This was such a fun trip. Everything is organised by Courtney and her team at Mint Surf, who are all super professional, warm and welcoming. The surf instructors are great - I’ve taken lessons before but this is the first time it’s clicked and I improved a lot over the 5 days. The accommodation is large, airy, comfortable and clean, with comfy beds, high quality facilities, and a rooftop terrace. The cafe downstairs has the best food in the whole town. Courtney is extremely helpful and organised everything for us (from taxis into another town to last minute Covid tests required for travel). The whole team is super kind and friendly and made everyone feel right at home. Would definitely recommend.

We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity.

What's the number?
It works out on average at 314kg of CO2 emissions per person, including all local transport, accommodation, food, activities, guides, staff and office operations.

The only thing it doesn’t include right now is flights and travel to the destination. We do make an overall estimate across all our customers separately, but as we don’t book flights, have customers from all corners of the world, and no way of reliably knowing their travel plans, we simply can’t include an individual number in the figure on display here. We’ve got a goal to fix that, so that when you book, there is a way to measure and mitigate the carbon emitted by your flight too.

But what does the number mean?
Yep, hard to picture eh? To give you an idea:

  • Driving 1000miles/1609km would be approx. 281kg of CO2 in an average car (or 140.5kg per person if there was 2 of you in it).
  • A return economy class flight London - New York would be approx. 1,619kg (1.66 tonnes) per person.
  • 10 trees in a temperate forest are estimated to remove approx. 250kg of CO2 from the air in a period of 5-10 years.

What are we doing about it?
Our trips are relatively low-carbon by design, and we're working with all our hosts to develop long term carbon reduction plans. We partner with the World Land Trust to ensure this trip achieves Net-Zero emissions. We also support their Buy an Acre programme, helping local communities to buy and protect natural habitats in perpetuity, ensuring the protection of the reserve and its wildlife.

Want to know more?
Amazingly, no international travel company has ever publicly published their carbon measurements before, as far as we know. We believe that must change, quickly. So we’re openly sharing the method we used in the hope that other companies will be able to more easily follow suit and build on what we've done so far. You'll find it all here.

This trip is most suitable for beginner surfers who want to learn some basic surf skills and work on their technique. Your instructor will adjust every lesson to suit your skill level. The only requirement is that you can swim and tread water.

Sure can! Over 70% of our travellers travel solo, it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

Tap water is OK for washing and brushing teeth, but it is not recommended for drinking. Bottled mineral water is cheap and available everywhere. Alternatively you can bring a water purifier and help keep plastic out of the ocean.

There is a huge variety of surf in this area of Morocco all year round - from mellow beginner waves, to challenging reef ledges. Due to the varied nature of the coastline there is almost always somewhere sheltered and manageable, but those looking for a challenge won’t be disappointed either.

Each morning will start with a surf lesson where you’ll learn the proper stance, how to paddle, turn, pop up and keep your speed, as well as surf etiquette, safety and how to read the beach (waves, rips and currents.) After that you’re free to enjoy the waves and practise at your leisure for the rest of the day and your hosts will monitor from the beach.

With more than 300 days of sunshine, Morocco is a year-round destination and you’re unlikely to encounter rain. The summer months see warm temperatures (air 20 – 30 °C; sea 18 – 21 °C) and small to medium swells. Winter months have cooler but very pleasant temperatures (air 18 – 26 °C; sea 16 – 20 °C) and the biggest waves.

We recommend checking out the country specific information here and also talking to a travel nurse.

For current advice about travelling in Morocco, have a read of the UK Foreign Office pages here.

You may read reports about a sewage problem in Taghazout online. Recent works in the area have seen the installation of a sewage system for the town, which is fully operational now. This means that surf camps in the area are all reporting a significant drop in stomach illness coming out of COVID. However, we still suggest to follow some basic hygiene rules and remain very careful of sunstroke, because that can equally cause nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea:

Wash your hands with soap thoroughly before every meal, stay away from random street food or other restaurants without recommendation if you don't know the hygienic conditions, and wear sun protection.

Ramadan will take place from 10th March to 8th April 2024. The national holiday of Eid ul-Fitr will follow for 2-3 days. Ramadan is an Islamic festival where the religious do not eat or drink during daylight hours. While this is a really interesting time to travel, especially to witness celebrations where the fast is broken in the evenings, you can expect some business hours will be shortened, alcohol is not permitted during daylight hours and some restaurants will be closed during this festival period. Activities for local people tend to be limited during the day and the nights are very active in cities with lots of different foods being sold and consumed. Ramadan will not affect the inclusions on your trip although you should be aware that if you'd like to drink alcohol, your host recommends that you bring duty free with you.

There will be one instructor to every eight surfers on your trip.

Our recommended travel insurance provider is Campbell Irvine.

Travel insurance is compulsory for all of our adventures and you are required to provide your policy information before departing.

Your insurance should include adequate protection for overseas medical treatment, evacuation/repatriation, your baggage and equipment and the specific activities involved on your adventure. We fully endorse Campbell Irvine as their insurance offers all of the above, so get in touch with them or call on 020 7938 1734 to get your insurance sorted. We suggest that you book travel insurance as soon as you book your adventure, just to cover you for any last-minute life changes. We know you’re an active lot and injuries do happen!

We automatically convert prices from the local currency that a host receives to your chosen currency. We update our exchange rates on a daily basis so this does mean that prices displayed on the site are subject to currency fluctuations, which is why you may see them change over time.
