Your host recommends that you bring:

  • Soft shoes for the kayaking: thin soled “barefoot shoes” or neoprene booties are ideal but simple running shoes or even thick wool socks will be fine
  • Hiking shoes or low ankle support boots
  • Wind and rainproof shell clothing
  • Thick warm fleece or puffy jacket for the camp
  • Set of spare underwear and a towel for the unlikely event of an involuntary swim
  • Cap or other light headwear for the day
  • Water bottle, around 1 litre
  • Camera
  • Basic toiletry kit
  • Personal medications
  • Waterproof pouch case for your phone is handy if you want take pictures while kayaking

There is a wide selection of kayaks available. While we offer single kayaks to everyone, there are twin kayaks available as well. Just let us know in advance if you would like to use one instead.

This will depend in part on the weather but during the summer season, shorts and a t-shirt will do. It would be also handy to bring a light wind and waterproof jacket as an extra layer, but your lower body will be well sheltered under the spraydeck.

It is very unlikely. The kayaks are particularly stable and it takes a lot of effort to tip yourself over. In the event that you do capsize, your guide will help you back into your kayak in no time, so there is nothing to worry about.

The big wheels on fatbikes make riding really comfortable through the forest trails. They also have hand brakes and a back brake for easy stopping, making them the perfect bikes for beginners.

Helsinki, the capital of Finland, is a vibrant seaside city of beautiful islands. With a metropolitan population of 1.3 million, it’s the largest city in Finland and frequently makes the list of Top 10 Most Livable Cities in the World. Part of that is due to its gorgeous seaside location on the Gulf of Finland but also its abundance of natural areas.

The Gulf of Finland is the easternmost arm of the Baltic Sea which extends between Finland and Estonia. It is home to many beautiful islands, including Vartiosaari, famed for its rich landscape and cultural history.

Start point

Helsinki Airport - 17:30

Your adventure begins at Helsinki Airport (HEL) where you will meet your guide and fellow adventurers in the arrivals area at 17:30. Your transfer will meet all flights scheduled to land at least 30 minutes before this time.

If you wish to arrive earlier and explore Helsinki, you can arrange to be picked up in Helsinki city centre instead. There is a fast, cheap train connection to the city centre, or alternatively grab a taxi from the airport to Helsinki City Centre. It takes about 30 minutes from airport to city centre.

What to Expect

Friday: Arrival in Helsinki

Upon catching your transfer from the city centre or the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel about 14km from the city.

Spend the evening exploring the area around the hotel area in Eastern Helsinki, where you can enjoy the cafes by the water or explore the beautiful scenery.

If you have just flown in, you can easily hop on the Metro to Helsinki, should you wish to explore the city centre some more. The city contains a wealth of churches, parks, and eclectic museums, and well as endless outdoor bars.

A definite must-see that shouldn’t be missed is the Baltic Sea fortress of Suomenlinna.

Saturday: Hiking and Kayaking

After breakfast at your hotel, your adventure will start with a kayaking trip to Vartiosaari, an island known for its beautiful and diverse nature.

The tour starts at the Vuosaari Paddling Center, where you will hop into your kayaks.

As you navigate your way through the islands, you will reach a small beach, where it’s time to ditch the kayaks and take to the land.

You will hike uphill to see the views over the archipelago, before continuing along the nature trails, past some of the major historical sights of the island.

Halfway through the hike, you will be served a delicious lunch overlooking the beach.

Once you’ve seen the island on foot, head back to your kayaks for a relaxed paddle back to the centre.

Spend your evening by the sea, at the Hotel Rantapuisto or catch the metro into the vibrant city centre of Helsinki.

Sunday: Bike along the coastline

Enjoy breakfast before heading onto the dirt roads, where you will meet your fatbikes.

After a quick briefing, you will ride through the forests and along the coast of the Gulf of Finland, where you will be able to see the beautiful archipelagos and its spectacular views.
