What to Expect

Thursday: Arrival Hike around Black Lake

Your guide will meet you at Dubrovnik Airport where you will be transferred to Nikšić for lunch and then straight to your accommodation in the highlands of Central Montenegro.

Check into your chalet, then stretch your legs with a scenic hike around “Black Lake” and enjoy the impressive mountain scenery before you head back to your chalet for a delicious dinner.

3 hours of driving, 2 hours of hiking

Friday: Prutas Peak Hike

You’ll begin your day with a drive to Katun Dobri Do trailhead (1700m), the start point of your hike to the summit of Prutas Peak (2393m).

This hike is considered one of the most scenic in the Durmitor Massif, thanks to its outstanding views along the entire trail.

When you reach the summit, you’ll be able to look down to the glacial lakes known as the “Eyes of the Mountain”.

Take some pictures before you begin the descent down the same trail. When you get to the bottom, head back to the chalet for a well-earned meal.

Saturday: Explore Biogradska Gora National Park

After breakfast, you’ll leave the mountains and head to the Biogradska Gora National Park.

Although the smallest of the four National Parks, Biogradska Gora National Park is one of the most diverse natural habitats and a place of particular historical significance in the First Balkan War.

When you get there, you’ll explore the Đurđevića Tara Bridge, and if you’re up to it, you can zip line down from it.

Head back to your accommodation before you start the hike to the Rabbit Head peak, where you will literally be able to see half of Montenegro.

The Durmitor is a spectacular limestone massif in North-Western Montenegro, among the Dinaric Alps. The area is famous for its 18 glacial lakes, commonly referred to as the “Eyes of the Mountain” as well as its abundance of wildlife, including brown bears, grey wolves and golden eagles. The lower slopes are covered in beautifully preserved forests of old growth Black Pine, making the area particularly stunning.

Zabljak is a small mountain town with a population of about 2000. It is one of the best places to see Montenegro’s ‘Black Mountains’ and has an abundance of mountain restaurants. It’s the perfect place to get away from the crowds and immerse yourself in mountain life.
