Need To Know

If you add a rental car to your trip, you can pick up your car at Stavanger Sola Airport at the following times*:

  • Weekdays: 7am to 9pm.
  • Saturday: 9am to 1pm.
  • Sunday: 1pm to 6pm.

You can drop off your car at Bergen Flesland Airport at the following times:

  • Weekdays: 7am to 11:30pm.
  • Saturday: 7am to 5pm.
  • Sunday: 12pm to 12am.

*All reservations arriving outside opening hours of the location will be charged 450 NOK (£40-£45) (including tax) when collecting the vehicle. Out of hours fee will also apply all day on public holidays.

This trip is suitable for adults who are in very good condition, and have previous hiking experience.
Here’s the distances again for you:


  • Total distance: 2×4 km. Total ascent: 500m.


  • Total distance: 2×13 km. Total ascent: 1,200m.

This is a winter expedition to a remote part of the Fjords not accessible by car. You should expect and be prepared for snowy conditions and below freezing temperatures. Your guide will be on hand at all times to help while on the trek and can answer any questions you have when booking/before arriving.

Please note: due to the possibility of rapidly-changing weather conditions, it may be necessary to make changes to scheduled trips. In the event that your trip needs to be rescheduled for another day or cancelled on short notice, you may choose between joining the rescheduled trip or getting a refund. In the event that weather conditions deteriorate during your trip, it may be necessary to turn around on the trail or head back earlier than planned. If this happens, no refunds will be given.

Your guide will prepare a hearty Norwegian foods to keep you warm and your energy levels high. Expect stews that will warm both your body and soul.

What to Expect

Day 1: Stavanger to Preikestolen Mountain Lodge

Following instructions provided by your host, you’ll take the ferry from Stavanger and Tau. When you return to dry land, you’ll then take the short drive to your accommodation at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. If you’ve booked a hire car with your trip, you’ll pick this up at Stavanger Sola Airport.

Relax and enjoy and evening meal overlooking the tranquil Refsvatn Lake ahead of tomorrow’s adventure.

Total travel time: approx. 1-1.5 hour.

Day 2: Preikestolen Winter Hike:

After breakfast, your guide will lead you up through the shifting terrain and onward to the mountain’s plateau. Your hike will take you through snow and ice so you’ll adjust your equipment to match what the terrain throws at you next.

After 2.5-3.5 hours of trekking, you’ll be rewarded with a panoramic view of some of the most dramatic scenery Fjord-Norway has to offer. Standing atop the 604-meter-high cliff, the tranquility will truly hit you as you admire the awe-inspiring views of the Lysefjord and surrounding mountains..

After a well-deserved break at the cliff’s edge and plenty of photo opportunities, your guide will lead you back down to the trail-head, which will take about 2 hours.

Back on the road, you’ll say goodbye to Preikestolen and enjoy the scenic 4 hour drive to Trolltunga Hotel; a stunning route taking you by mountains, lakes and waterfalls.

*8km hike, ascent 500m, descent 500m

Day 3: Trolltunga Winter Hike

After breakfast, you’ll take the hotel shuttle to the trailhead in Skjeggedal (20 minutes). You’ll complete the first hill on foot and then it’s on with the skis or snowshoes to continue the hike up the mountain to Gryteskar; with views towards the Folgefonna glacier that are simply unreal.

After around 6 hours of trekking, you’ll reach the famous Trolltunga rock formation. Enjoy the serenity and stunning views over Ringedal Lake and Folgefonna Glacier as you come to understand why this spot is so iconic.

Your guide will lead you back down to the trail-head, which will take about 5 hours.

Day 4: Trolltunga Hotel to Bergen

This morning you’ll drive your scenic route of choice back to Bergen; with plenty to choose from, your guide will provide you with some route descriptions.

You’re likely to have some time to spend in Bergen before your forwarding journey home and if this is the case, be sure the main attractions are on your to-do list; Bryggen, Fløibanen Funicular, Bergen Aqaurium or the famous Fish Market are all well worth a visit.

You’ll spend your first night at Preikestolen Mountain Lodge. The mountain lodge is architecturally unique and environmentally friendly. The special character of the building and its harmonious interaction with nature gives all visitors a special experience.

The Trolltunga Hotel offers accomodation with incredible views. Enjoy exquisite local food in our very own Trolltunga Restaurant.
