Day 2: Laugavegurinn hike

Enjoy an early Icelandic breakfast at camp before travelling in style by super jeep, to the start point of today’s trek; just 15 minutes away at Hungurfit.

Today you’ll be hiking between 15-20 km off-the-beaten-track, through small creeks, mountains, hills, and canyons with very little foot traffic. Enjoy the serenity of untouched nature as your guide takes you a route few know exists.

Cross over from the unknown into the infamous as you reach Laugavegurinn hike; renowned worldwide for its extreme diversity and stark beauty, it’s considered one of the best hikes in Iceland.

Nearing the end of an epic first day, you’ll arrive at the deep and decorative Álftavatn lake, where you’ll set up camp for the night.

For your first dinner together this evening, it’s all hands on deck as you prepare a barbeque together as a group. After dinner you can make the most of the 20 hours of daylight; play games, chill-out, or even take an evening hike.

4-6 hours hiking

Day 3: Hike from Álftavatn to Emstrur

Wake to the call of the birds and enjoy your first breakfast in the Icelandic wilderness. After a tough first day, you’ll take things a little slower this morning and enjoy your scenic camp for a little while before starting the next chapter of this adventure.

Today you’ll hike 15-20 km from Álftavatn to Emstrur. As you cross rivers on foot, you’ll soon recognise the dramatic change in the landscape as you transition from dazzling fields and sparkling glaciers to traverse through the black sands of a volcanic desert.

Emstrur is a lush camping area and when you arrive you are likely to meet other fellow hikers. Get comfortable at camp and then take an evening hike to one of the most impressive gems – the Markarfljót canyon. Not the easiest to access, this stunning canyon has very few visitors but makes for some awesome photos.

After a filling breakfast, get ready to enjoy another day of otherworldly landscapes as you take the 15-20 km hike from Emstrur to Þórsmörk.

Today, you’ll pass through a varied terrain of Icelandic forest, beautiful canyons, and small gorges before reaching Þórsmörk. This beautiful area is a green and fertile valley named after the Norse god Thor, and sits at the foot of the Eyjafjallajokull glacier.

The valley of Thor will be your campsite for the night; enjoy dinner and drinks around the bonfire as you unwind after yet another long hike.

4-6 hours hiking

Day 5: A Day of Rest

After 3 trekking-packed days, a day of relaxation is called for and where better to spend it then in the most beautiful valley in the South of Iceland.

The photo opportunities are endless as your camp sits perfectly sandwiched between glaciers and volcanoes; 2 newly formed craters from the 2010 eruptions of Eyjafjallajokull are a spectacular sight to see.

Still feeling energetic? For those who want to keep their joints moving, there will be plenty of opportunities to take a good hike around the area and get a closer look.

Tonight is the last night of the trek, so make the most of the long daylight hours and the subsequent starry night sky, as you enjoy a group barbecue around the campfire.

Day 6: Fimmvörðuhals trail and Skogafoss waterfall

An early start today and a filling breakfast ahead of the last and most challenging part of the trek.

Today you’ll hike approximately 25km along the Fimmvörðuhals trail. The route is a spectacular one as it takes you through volcanoes, glaciers and over 20 waterfalls on your way to the iconic Skogafoss waterfall.

Your arrival at this breathtaking fall will be the perfect conclusion to your epic trek.

Once you’ve caught your breath and this moment on camera, you’ll be transferred back to Midgard Base Camp in Hvolsvöllur for some serious R and R; enjoy the rooftop hot tub and sauna and unwind after an incredible week of hiking through Iceland’s pristine nature.

Savour a homemade meal and celebrate your accomplishments with your new-found friends.
