As you stand-up paddleboard 40km from Sneem to Kenmare, you’ll experience the Ring of Kerry’s finest untouched white-sand beaches, an abundance of wildlife, and spectacular rugged coastline.

By night, you’ll camp beneath the stars and cook traditional Irish food over an open fire.

What to Expect

Thursday: Arrive at Sneem

You’ll arrive at Kerry Airport in the early evening and you’ll be transferred by minibus to Sneem where you’ll camp for the night.

On your way, you’ll pass through the Killarney National Park and the beautiful Molls Gap, before crossing the mountains that will reveal your first look at the sea.

When you arrive, camp will be ready and a delicious dinner will be simmering over the fire. Get to know the group around the campfire before getting a good night’s rest ahead of tomorrow’s challenging paddle.

1-hour drive

Friday: Explore the coast

Wake up to a tasty breakfast before packing up camp and launching your SUP boards.

You’ll begin by paddling the islets surrounding Parknasilla Resort and Spa, a spectacular converted castle, where you’re highly likely to see a seal or two.

You’ll stop for a picnic lunch and snacks as you paddle along the coastline throughout the day, eventually settling on a secluded island where you’ll set up camp.

Warm by the fire, rest your arms and enjoy dinner whilst sharing stories among the group.

15km paddle

Saturday: Paddle Blackwater River

Listen to the morning call of the birds while you enjoy breakfast before you head out and continue your journey along the Ring of Kerry.

Stopping for snacks and refreshments along the way, you’ll paddle a short way up the Blackwater River; this Special Area of Conservation is home to some rare freshwater pearl mussels, and sits under the watchful gaze of the towering MacGillycuddy Reeks.

Inevitably, you’ll find a quaint spot for lunch before continuing the challenge along the coast until you find the perfect place to set up camp.

Enjoy dinner beneath the star-lit sky and listen to the calls of nature that make wild camping the marvel it is.

15km paddle

Sunday: The final stretch

Enjoy your final morning at camp and breakfast by the water; today you will paddle the final stretch to Kenmare.

Along the way, you’ll pass Dromore Castle and the fairytale-like An Culu Castle.

You’ll paddle the coast all morning before reaching Kenmare. Here, you’ll stop for a farewell lunch with the group and your guides before it’s time to leave for the airport.

Kenmare Bay is settled in South West Ireland, Co. Kerry, between the Iveragh and Beara Peninsulas. The area is famous for its outstanding natural beauty, sloping rocks, towering mountains, and virgin forestry, not to mention the Irish hospitality.

Kenmare Bay is abundant in wildlife, with its very own seal colony, basking sharks in May, and bio-luminescence in late August. This area is steeped in local history from the famous Kenmare Lace to castles, fairy forts and more.

Kenmare Bay is full of inlets and islands making for perfect sheltered paddle conditions, with plenty of coast to explore; it’s the ideal place to escape and reconnect with nature.

Finish point?
You will be dropped off at Kerry Airport. You are free to book any flight that departs after 17:00. Your host will be in touch before your trip to finalise details.

This trip will run with a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8 people.

Sure can! A lot of people do, and it’s a great way to meet like-minded people.

You need to be of moderate fitness for this trip and previous SUP experience is recommended although not mandatory; your guide will be there to instruct you.

Stand up paddle boarding is very easy. It takes about 10 minutes to figure out how to do. Touring SUP, is the equivalent to taking a hike.

Ireland is unpredictable though never too cold. Air temperatures run from 10°C to 20°C with sea temperatures ranging from 12°C in April to 17°C in August. Rain should be expected at some point in the trip. All of this is taken into account and alternative plans exist should they be needed.

Expect traditional Irish food; beef stew, roasted veg, local muscles and pasta, home-made brown bread, porridge, and Irish fry-up.

A picnic lunch, snacks and refreshments are included throughout the trip; expect sandwiches, nuts and dried fruit, fresh fruit, tea and coffee.
